Secondly, it arises from the cause of food born of contact. Thirdly, it arises from food born of mental thought. A monk, seeing that the cause of morsel food turns into the suffering of internal diseases, when eating morsel food, is without manifest attachment, like falling upon the flesh of a child. A monk, truly seeing that the cause of contact, which becomes the experience of happiness, is the suffering of internal desire, sees the six sources of contact like a flayed cow. He thinks thus: If I were to abide relying on these six sources of contact with attachment and craving's pervasive clinging, then relying on forms, I would, because of forms, generate thoughts of sinful, unwholesome dharmas, like a flayed cow being eaten by creatures, and while being eaten, also abide in suffering and unease. Having seen it thus, he first sees the fault in the source of contact, so he does not engage in all afflictions. Just as with forms, so too should sounds, smells, tastes, tactile objects, and dharmas be understood. First, just as with the source of contact, he abides without afflictions, seeing the fault between the first and the sixth source of contact. A monk, truly seeing that the cause of mental thought is the suffering of being impoverished by internal desire, sees mental thought like an impure pit of fire. Because it generates great torment of body and mind arising from being impoverished by desire, having truly seen it thus, he does not rely on robes and alms, etc., but enters into homes. Therefore, he will not be stained by the suffering arising from being impoverished by desire, and will also abide touching happiness. Thus, he has properly examined the three kinds of food: morsel food, contact, and mental thought. He truly sees that from the cause of these three kinds of food, suffering arises as described, with the internal consciousness being pierced by three hundred short spears. Why is that? Because thus, from the cause of morsel food, also

I experience various kinds of suffering from diseases, arising in consciousness in many diverse ways. Moreover, due to contact, the suffering of desire arises even more intensely. And because of mental contemplation, the suffering of being deprived of desire also arises. Therefore, one should truly see consciousness as food, without regard for body and life. In this way, one properly examines the four kinds of food. Relying on this examination, one abandons this life. Having abandoned it, one will also attain ultimate suffering in the future. If one does not see these four kinds of food as they truly are, one will be defiled by both joy and desire. It should be known that for one who is defiled, there will be two kinds of faults: those of the future life and those of this life. Among the four kinds of food, the defiled mental pleasure that arises from mental contemplation, accompanied by hope and doubt, is joy. The particular attachment to the causes of contact that lead to the experience of pleasure, and to the foods that are the places of pleasure and delight, is desire. These two defilements cause consciousness in this life to become defiled. Remaining in the places of consciousness, they also arise in the future as seeds for the arising of existence. Having arisen, the sufferings of birth and so forth in future existences will become manifest. It should be understood that this is the fault of the future life, arising from the defilements of joy and desire. Furthermore, in this way, because one dwells with the defilements of joy and desire towards the four kinds of food, this life becomes coarse. Because it becomes coarse in this way, the food deteriorates and changes, and therefore one feels sadness, fatigue, and discomfort. It should be understood that this life, accompanied by sadness, is the fault of this life, caused by joy and desire. Whoever does not abandon joy and desire for the four kinds of food, their body, including consciousness, composed of the six sense bases, is like a multi-storied building. The arising of their six sense bases...

From the orifices, the light of afflictions focused on objects, like the rays of the sun, will enter that place, and there, either underground or above ground, it will become a place of dwelling. From the place of dwelling, just as before, in the four abodes of consciousness, by making the consciousness completely afflicted, the arising of future existence will be manifestly accomplished. Abandoning joy and desire is the opposite of this; those afflictions, because they are focused on objects, will not even arise, and will enter that place, turning the dwelling place backwards. Furthermore, for the individual who has not abandoned joy and desire, the demon will come, thinking: "In any way, I must adorn this individual with various objects that are like being stained with paint, and with various afflictions." That individual, because he has not abandoned joy and desire, is like the earth, a place for various traces of afflictions. For the individual who has abandoned joy and desire, if the demon comes as before, then that individual, because he has abandoned joy and desire, is like the sky, a place where there is no basis for various traces of afflictions. The faults of not abandoning joy and desire for foods should also be combined in order. The benefits of abandoning joy and desire for foods should also be understood in order. Summary: Proper attention and accumulation, the truth of arising, attainment, sign and place, action and interruption, faults and the black of maturation, great meaning, rarity, are the last. Through knowing the truth, proper attention and improper attention, the outflows of not thoroughly knowing what is truly real will not be exhausted. The opposite of this, the outflows of thoroughly knowing will be exhausted. From this, listening to non-holy Dharma is not a place of birth for peace, taming, and complete nirvana, therefore it is called improper attention. The opposite of this, listening to the holy Dharma should be known as proper attention. For the person who teaches the Dharma wrongly, it is the Buddhas of this Dharma and
