He fully understands in accordance with reality. The distinctions of the paths are as follows: They should be understood as arising from the Hearer's Ground. Having fully understood that path in accordance with reality, he makes every effort to abandon everything completely because of the first path that should be abandoned. It is not for the sake of seeing that one should be free from afflictions, and this is also fully understood in accordance with reality. Abandoning the second difficulty, and abandoning the third dull manifestation of knowledge, is also fully understood in accordance with reality. He first abandons the gross with the first (difficulty), and abandons one side with the second. Then, having perfectly accomplished the quick and easy manifestation of knowledge, relying on it, thereafter, because the outflows are exhausted, he will completely pass into nirvana in this life without taking anything. Even after separating from the body, he will become one without a remainder of aggregates. Thus, relying on those seven purifications, gradually, like this, up to complete nirvana without taking, it will also be truly accomplished. Therefore, because all the purifications are gradually complete, complete nirvana without taking will be truly accomplished. It is not because any one is incomplete. Therefore, for the sake of the meaning of all, one practices pure conduct in the presence of the Blessed One, not for the sake of just a part. Therefore, the Blessed One also teaches complete nirvana without taking with all, not except for just a part. Thus, if this is the case, here, through each gate, one will not pass into nirvana without taking with just that alone, and it is not without it either. This should be understood as the profound dependent arising of this conditionality here. The Compendium of Grounds from the Ground of Yogic Practice, Volume Fifteen. Summary: Various establishments and causes, meaning constancy and faults, and universal contamination is not the last. These four dharmas are what cause the great elements of the senses to increase greatly in this life. What are the four? Strength, pleasure, joy, and hope for painful things, strength, pleasure, joy, and the origin of the senses that have become the basis of hopes.

The four great elements, together with life and warmth, abide and do not perish. It should be known that there are also four foods that nourish these four dharmas, in the following order: namely, coarse food, contact that causes pleasure (with outflows), mental volition, and consciousness that takes up the great elements of the senses. Among these, coarse food nourishes the strength of this life, and strength causes the great elements of the senses to increase. Contact that causes pleasure (with outflows) nourishes pleasure and joy, and pleasure and joy cause the great elements of the senses to increase. The thought that connects with the object of mind is called mental volition, and it nourishes the hope for objects of desire, and hope causes the great elements of the senses to increase. Consciousness that takes up the great elements of the senses is the cause of the abiding of the great elements of the senses together with life and warmth, and this abiding is the cause of consciousness not separating from the body. The abiding of strength, pleasure, joy, and hope also arises in dependence on it. Therefore, the four foods are what cause the aggregates of sentient beings to abide. Among these, coarse food produces strength, and strength causes the great elements of the senses to increase. Therefore, whatever child observes the body and life, in seeking this meaning, also creates virtuous and non-virtuous actions, and new afflictions also increase. It should be known that, like coarse food, contact and mental volition should also be understood to be similar to it as appropriate. Therefore, through these three, actions and afflictions that lead to rebirth are created, thereby causing the consciousness of this life to approach and be associated with actions and afflictions, and also aiding rebirth in the future. Therefore, these four foods, for those who seek aggregates, desire rebirth, and have not abandoned rebirth, are what accumulate, grasp, and aid rebirth.
