Therefore, for the gods who dwell in the desire realm, the consumption of food varies in size. The beings in the intermediate state and those in the womb are similar. The consumption of food in the intermediate states of the desire realm that are not of this kind should be understood as coarse. Contact, ideation, and consciousness should be understood as subtle for the formless beings. Those that are not of this kind are coarse because they rely on form, making them easy to observe and determine completely. This should be understood as the different categories of subtle and coarse food. It should be understood that those upon which beings rely after they have arisen are coarse. It should be understood that those that benefit those who wish to arise are subtle. This should be understood as the classification of the four foods. The great elements of the senses are produced by being gathered by the happiness of all arising from previous craving. In order to increase them, one seeks the four foods completely. Therefore, in this way, the four foods upon which beings rely after they have arisen and become manifest are also produced from the cause of craving. Because of having craving, in this life, through three ways, one increases karma and afflictions towards the body and food, and thus, in order to benefit rebirth in this life, consciousness approaches karma and afflictions and engages in taking and abandoning. Therefore, the four foods that benefit beings seeking to arise are also produced from the cause of craving. And craving itself arises in this life from the condition of feeling arising from the gathering of ignorance, that is, from contact. The feeling arising from the gathering of ignorance, that is, from contact, also arises from the condition of the gathering of ignorance, that is, from the condition of contact. The gathering of ignorance, that is, contact, also arises from the condition of the six sense sources that possess the realm of ignorance due to previous habituation. Therefore, in this life, there is no other cause apart from the six sense sources. The six sense sources themselves merely rely on each other. Consciousness relies on the colored sense organs. The colored sense organs held by consciousness

It also relies on name, therefore it is called indistinguishable from the six sense bases. When relying on the power of external limbs, listening to the excellent Dharma, with the cause of internal proper attention, correct views arise. Therefore, abandon ignorance and generate wisdom. Because the place is completely transformed, and the karma of evil destinies within it has been thoroughly purified, in this life, the six sense bases that possess the realm of ignorance cease, and those that possess the realm of wisdom arise. Because its six sense bases cease, gradually even craving ceases. When existence ceases, food ceases. Moreover, after the foods that are helpful for rebirth cease, it also possesses reason, and does not seek arising, one should understand that its rebirth of craving also ceases. For the Dharma, there are no foods to eat, and there is nothing by which the Dharma that arises and exists is called food, and there is no self, but the dharmas themselves are unborn, with the cause of arising, in a way the dharmas themselves nourish the dharmas, this is the meaning of food, conventionally with the name of Dharma, the name and form are nominally established as a person, and ultimately called the person who eats the four kinds of food. For example, this is the meaning of following the establishment of names, but it is not the ultimate truth. What is the reason for that? If name and form arise and exist, and are completely established in the manner of a person, becoming an eater, then name and form cannot become food, because at any time a person will not eat a person, and two names and forms will not exist simultaneously in one continuum. Therefore, it is impossible to be completely established in the manner of a person, existing and becoming an eater of name and form. In such an impossible situation, if someone asks who eats the food of name and form, then it should be known that this is an improper question. If one asks, what is the cause of the food of name and form, then one has entered into dependent origination, therefore it should be known that this is a proper question. There are two kinds of existence, namely existence of birth and existence of karma. Among them, the latter existence is the birth of birth.

When existence manifests and arises, the consciousness that is now close to karma and afflictions in this life projects the existence of birth in the next life. That which arises in the manner of preceding it is called the existence of karma. If that existence arises in this very life, then its subsequent existence will also arise in the next life. Because the existence of birth encompasses that which is to be born, from the time of death, the six sense bases of the previous end cease, and the six sense bases of the subsequent end arise, which is called the existence of birth. That consciousness is a condition because it projects before those six sense bases, and it is also a condition at the time of connecting continuity. Thus, from consciousness entering the mother's womb, name and form arise. From the condition of name and form, the six sense bases endowed with the realm of ignorance arise. Then, from that condition, through the condition of taking in the order of contact similar to it, it arises even until the existence of karma at the subsequent end. All these dharmas arise from non-existence through their respective conditions, but among them, from the toucher to the exister, there is no one who touches or exists. These dharmas are merely nourished by what is not them, and consumed by what is not them. Therefore, the continuum of conditioned phenomena belonging to cause and effect proceeds without ceasing. From the previous existence of karma arises the existence of birth at the subsequent end, and that is transmigration. From the existence of karma at the subsequent end, that very existence of birth at the previous end also returns. Thus, this wheel of dependent origination revolves from this world to the other world, and from the other world to this world. Therefore, the meaning of nourishing dharmas should be understood as the meaning of food. From the cause of the three kinds of food, three kinds of inner suffering will arise, namely: the suffering of illness arising from imbalance of the elements, the suffering of desire, and the suffering of being deprived by desire. Among them, the first arises from the cause of coarse food.
