Moreover, the teacher also explained it well in the same way, and that person is also peaceful and gentle, examines meticulously, is wise and intelligent, and is clear and bright, that is, to whom it is explained and who listens. The meaning of these words is like this, just as it arises from the collection of terms. Among them, dependent origination, if summarized briefly, should be understood in four ways with utmost depth. What are the four? It is difficult to understand the subtle causes and effects, difficult to understand selflessness, difficult to understand the aggregation of separated sentient beings, and difficult to understand the separation of aggregated sentient beings. Among them, what is difficult to understand about the subtle causes and effects? Relying on the method of examining the truth, from the limb of existence, old age and death, etc., up to consciousness and name and form, what are all their causes? What is the cause that exists? By what cause does birth occur, and if what is not abandoned, it will occur, and after birth, it will also become old and die, one should understand it in this way. Among them, the cause of birth is also birth, and the manifest accomplishment arising from that cause is also birth. If the earliest birth exists, there will be a later birth, and if the later birth exists, there will be old age and death. Among them, the earliest birth is the cause of the later birth and the basis of old age and death. The later birth is the condition for old age and death. When all of those are gathered together, it is called old age and death due to the condition of birth, and it should be understood that this is the reason why the condition of old age and death exists. Just as birth is, so are existence and grasping. The distinct establishment of grasping is, in general, the desire of intention is grasping. The four kinds of close grasping are the distinct establishment of grasping. How is it understood? Craving is what initiates all actions through seeking desire. Existence also initiates all actions through desire. Those two actions rely on pleasant and unpleasant feelings. That also arises through the six sense sources, from the feeling that arises from the contact that arises from the accumulation of ignorance, and arises from that condition. There are also other feelings that do not become that condition, such as the feeling that arises from the contact that arises from the accumulation of wisdom, and wisdom is also not

It arises from the union-touch that is neither non-knowing. All those feelings should also be known to arise from the cause of touch, which is similar to that touch. What is that? For example, that which equally possesses both knowing and non-knowing is the union-touch of designation. The opposite of that is the union-touch of obstruction. The union-touch of knowing and the union-touch of non-knowing are related to the union-touch of designation, and it should also be known that they arise from the cause of name, which is equally associated with the hearing of pure Dharma and the hearing of non-holy Dharma, the correct and incorrect hearing of objects, as well as the knowledge of thought and meditation, as appropriate. The union-touch that is neither knowing nor non-knowing, which is gathered by the union-touch, should be known to arise from the cause of inner and outer form. In short, touch is caused by name and form. Name and form are the six sense bases themselves, divided into two parts and becoming the cause of touch. The formless sense base of mind, and other formless dharmas, equally possessing them, divided into one part, is name. The sense bases with form that are not that, divided into one part, are form. Name and form are also caused by the consciousness that connects the continuum in this life, which is thrown and grasped, and if it does not separate from that, it will not cease to exist. Consciousness also, having taken the connection of the continuum, abides only in name and form, and enters in the manner of arising together and immediately after that. Therefore, that also arises from the cause of name and form in this life, and it should be known that name, form, and consciousness, which are thrown by previous actions, are mutually dependent, and one is the cause of the other. Thus, the aggregates of existence, consciousness and name and form, should also be known to have causes as appropriate, just like the previous ones, like the continuum of aging and death, and this is because the subtle parts of cause and effect are difficult to know. Because it is difficult to know, dependent origination is profound and extremely profound. Selflessness and
