It should be known that diligently practicing the Dharma in accordance with it, and attaining Nirvana in this life, is to accomplish benefit for oneself. Among them, a Hearer who possesses innate wisdom through the accumulation of past wisdom is called a wise person. Having scripture is clarity. Having contemplation is gentleness. Because one does not rely on others for all dharmas, therefore one has no fear of dharmas. Through the door of the object of focus, one realizes true Nirvana as it is, therefore one sees the nectar. Abiding in the wisdom of cessation and non-arising, one attains the realm of Nirvana with remainder, therefore one cultivates and abides by realizing the realm of nectar with the body. The thirteenth fascicle of the Compendium of Matters from the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra speaks of external heretics: External heretics, seeing the gross impermanence of the body arising from the four great elements, observe the dwelling and living of the body, as well as its increase and decrease, the abandonment and acceptance at the time of death and birth, thereby becoming weary of this body, and becoming detached and liberated. Even if one is separated from desire from the desire realm and the form realm through the worldly path, it should be known that even if one has reached below the peak of existence, one is still not completely liberated from this body. Why is that? Because, in this way, although he has practiced that and that samadhi, he still clings to self and what belongs to self, and dwells with all defilements. Because he is not skilled in dependent origination, his life is exhausted, his karma is exhausted, and he will regress again. The noble Hearer who is skilled in dependent origination truly sees the most subtle impermanence of the body arising from the four great elements, but the impermanence of consciousness is not like that. Why is that? Because, the body arising from the four great elements appears impermanent at other times, but in each moment, because of the following of the similar continuum, it is not obvious. The impermanence of consciousness, however, appears in many forms in the way that it shifts and changes from one object of focus to another in each moment, but
