If it is said that not being in (a certain state) will lead to being difficult to tame and regretful, then why is it that one is mostly disrespectful towards the trainings, and that completely enjoying what is given with faith is also fully revealed? Because that also does that, and also deceives those who are diligent in the virtuous friend's activities of merit. If it is said that the obstacle to meditation is holding one's own view as supreme and abiding in it, which leads to being difficult to tame, then why is it that one is disrespectful towards the pure Bodhisattva Paramitas, does not look, does not serve, does not listen, and that the very desire to practice non-conforming Dharma is also fully revealed? Because that also does that, and also deceives the virtuous friend's retinue and conduct. If it is said that not showing, showing what should not be sought, showing what is not in accordance, showing what is not the same, will lead to going astray, then why is it that showing again and again leads to complete weariness, and that the mind is not equal, and that one does not know the means of showing, and that one is devoted to the Lesser Vehicle, and that one applies to showing conformity to the retinue with a defiled mind is also fully revealed? Because those also do those, because the roots of virtue are not completely perfected, and one does not hold great roots of virtue, and one completely abandons great roots of virtue, and the arising of non-merit also deceives taming. If it is said that abandoning non-saints and the four kinds of companions, the four kinds of things will completely decline, then why is it that stinginess, little learning, not entering well into the teachings, and not listening to the Buddha's words are also fully revealed? Because those also do those, because not having done roots of virtue, one fears the suffering of samsara, and one is unable to accomplish the benefit of others, and the roots of virtue are small, and one doubts and hesitates about the Dharmas, which will also completely decline. If it is said that a Bodhisattva desires pleasing activities for the four (things), desires sound, desires the fruit of wealth, and desires service and enjoyment and fame,

If it is said that one will become a Bodhisattva who is not as it is, why is it that one does not fear even the slightest faults with attachment to self, and does not consider the benefit of others with no faith in selflessness, and sees samsara and nirvana as virtues in one hand, and desires the hustle and bustle of this life, and also fully reveals the desire for power in the next life, and the desire for Dharma and worldly possessions? Because they also do those things, and from the very holding of Dharma, even between retinue and conduct, they are deceiving themselves! Chapter Forty-Two. What are the benefits of true practice? That too should be understood in four ways, from higher to higher: When a Bodhisattva thus truly enters practice, he accumulates the collections of merit and wisdom, and relying on that, obscurations are completely purified, and relying on that, white Dharma is truly accomplished from all doors, and relying on that, the benefit of all sentient beings is applied to all aspects, and immeasurable merit is born. There are four Dharmas that transform into the collections of merit and wisdom, etc.: namely, offering and serving the Tathagata in true practice; hearing is completely purified; thinking is completely purified; meditation is completely purified. There are four Dharmas that purify obscurations: not wavering from the vehicle; completely abandoning the cause of not practicing for others; completely abandoning the cause of wrong practice; completely abandoning the cause of not perfecting true practice. There are four Dharmas that truly accomplish white Dharma from all doors: meditation arises from the cause of meditation; making sentient beings fully mature arises from its cause; enduring suffering arises from its cause; and not being satisfied with hearing and thinking arises from its cause. There are four Dharmas that do all aspects of the benefit of sentient beings: namely, causing sentient beings to be liberated from the four states, namely, causing them to be liberated from hesitation and doubt, and from evil destinies and wrong paths.
