are faults. Among them, the fault of distraction can be known by two causes, namely, wrong enjoyment and much busyness. The fault of view can also be known by two causes, namely, abandoning the Dharma and the individual, and being manifestly attached to showing non-Dharma as Dharma. The fault of teaching can also be known by two causes, namely, only teaching the sutras of provisional meaning, and abandoning the sutras of definitive meaning, those that have not been heard or held. A Bodhisattva who conducts himself in a way that is incompatible with the qualities of a Bodhisattva is also these four: not believing in the teacher, being incompatible with respect for the training, and speaking of oneself to friends who practice the same Brahmacharya, and to those who discuss and follow, how one has become, and being incompatible, and for those with great wisdom and merit, initiating virtuous effort and being incompatible, and faith in the profound and vast, and being incompatible with the purification of one's own obscurations. Among them, not believing in the teacher can be known in three ways: not believing in existence itself, and great self, and those who have attained wisdom. Not speaking of oneself how one has become can also be known in three ways: being wrongly arrogant that one has a great self, and thus the mind is completely oppressed, therefore completely showing it to sentient friends, and concealing transgressions from sentient discussants, and to sentient followers, in a way of reproach, manifestly acting by obstructing it with a defiled one. Not initiating effort in virtue can be known in two ways: not rejoicing in the gains and respect of sentient beings with great wisdom and merit, and manifestly rejoicing in them. There are also four things that make a Bodhisattva difficult to tame, namely, these four obstacles to meditation, namely, emphasizing listening, and wrongly grasping the instructions, and regretting not abiding in pure morality, and holding one's own view as supreme and abiding in it. Among them, because the mind is not pacified towards listening,

It is to fully accept. Later, due to wrong conceptualization about the teachings, there is wrong clinging to the instructions. There are faults in pure ethics, and one feels regret for fully enjoying what was given with faith. Arguing with those who are especially superior among beings with tamed faculties, and with those who are special and superior through renunciation, one holds one's own view as supreme and abides in it. These four are also the ways in which bodhisattvas lead beings to bad paths: teaching those who have not entered with faith, teaching unsuitable things to beings of inferior vehicle who desire the great vehicle, teaching incompatible things to beings of great vehicle who desire the inferior vehicle, and teaching differently to beings who abide in ethics and those who do not, with biased desire. Among these, those who abide in ethics can be known in three ways: there is no fault at the edge of the path, there is no violation of ethics, and there is respect for the training. Those who do not abide in ethics can be known in two ways: there is a violation of ethics, and there is no respect for the training. If one relies on associating with impure bodhisattvas, four qualities will be completely lost: the lineage will be completely lost, the actions of benefiting beings will be completely lost, the teachings will be completely lost, and the constant practice of virtuous dharmas will be completely lost. The four types of bodhisattvas, namely those who uphold the Dharma, those who live in solitude, those who are diligent in doing good, and those with retinue and possessions, those who desire actions that are in accordance with bodhisattvas, although they are upholders of the Dharma, are not as they are in reality, not as they are in reality. Bodhisattvas who desire fame, although they are those who live in solitude, are not as they are in reality, not as they are in reality. Bodhisattvas who are connected with worldly fruits, possessing such a mind, although they are diligent in doing good, are not as they are in reality, not as they are in reality. Bodhisattvas who are connected with respect and enjoyment, and fame, possessing such a mind, their retinue and possessions are also not as they are in reality.
