For the reason that those who have not generated roots of virtue will generate them. Those whose obscurations have not been completely purified will also be completely purified. Those whose continuums have not been completely ripened will also be completely ripened. That basis will increase faith and will perfectly accomplish the accumulations of merit and wisdom. Although they thus perfectly accomplish from generating roots of virtue to the accumulations of merit and wisdom, however, because they do not know the two realities of the absence of inherent existence of birth, namely, the absence of inherent existence of characteristics and the absence of inherent existence of ultimate reality, as they truly are, therefore, they will not truly become weary of all conditioned phenomena, they will not truly become free from attachment, they will not truly become liberated, and they will not completely be liberated from the all-pervasive afflictions of the afflictions, they will not completely be liberated from the all-pervasive afflictions of karma, and they will not completely be liberated from the all-pervasive afflictions of birth. Therefore, the Thus-Gone One also, for those, like this, beginning with the absence of inherent existence of characteristics and the absence of inherent existence of ultimate reality, in order to truly become weary of all conditioned phenomena, to become free from attachment, to become liberated, and to truly eliminate from the all-pervasive afflictions of the afflictions, to truly eliminate from the all-pervasive afflictions of karma, and to truly eliminate from the all-pervasive afflictions of birth, teaches the Dharma. Having heard that Dharma, because they do not manifestly cling to the characteristic of the nature that is examined by the nature of dependence on others, therefore, they cause beings to have faith in the absence of inherent existence and in ultimate reality. They completely distinguish, they realize as it is, like this, the wisdom that has not been completely habituated by terms, the wisdom that is not connected with terms, the wisdom that does not have latent terms, the nature of dependence on others, in this life generates the power of wisdom, and in the future, by correctly severing the cause, it prevents it. That basis causes one to truly become weary of all conditioned phenomena, to truly become free from all attachment, to truly become liberated, and from the all-pervasive afflictions of the afflic

And also completely liberated from the earth, the all-pervasive afflictions of karma, and the all-pervasive afflictions of birth. Truly sublime, for this, sentient beings of the Śrāvakayāna lineage also attain accomplishment through this very path and this very practice, and obtain the unsurpassed bliss of nirvāṇa. Sentient beings of the Pratyekabuddhayāna lineage, as well as those of the Tathāgata lineage, also attain accomplishment through this very path and this very practice, and obtain the unsurpassed bliss of nirvāṇa. Therefore, this is the single path of purification for Śrāvakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas, and purification is also single, there is no second. Therefore, having considered this, I have taught the One Vehicle, but in the realm of sentient beings, it is not that there are no various lineages of sentient beings with dull faculties by nature, as well as those with middling faculties, and those with sharp faculties. Truly sublime, the individual of the Śrāvaka lineage, the solitary practitioner of peace, even if all Buddhas were endowed with diligence, cannot enter the essence of Bodhi and attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Why is that? Because he is of extremely small compassion, and extremely fearful of suffering, therefore by nature he is only of an inferior lineage. How, how much his compassion is extremely small, likewise, he is extremely disinclined towards the task of benefiting sentient beings. How, how much he is extremely fearful of suffering, likewise, he is extremely disinclined towards all manifested phenomena. Being extremely disinclined towards the task of benefiting sentient beings, and being extremely disinclined towards all manifested phenomena, I have not taught as unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, therefore it is called the solitary practitioner of peace. What is it that a Śrāvaka completely transforms into Bodhi? I have declared it to be a Bodhisattva by name, thus, he is liberated from the obscurations of afflictions, and if the Tathāgatas urge him, he is able to liberate the mind from the obscurations of knowledge.
