Thus he spoke. O Source of Qualities, it is good that you have entered in this way for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, with compassion for the world, and for the sake, benefit, and happiness of all beings including gods and humans, and that you intend to ask the Thus-Gone One about this very matter. Excellent! Excellent! O Source of Qualities, therefore listen, and I shall explain to you, who are skilled in the characteristics of all phenomena. O Source of Qualities, the characteristics of all phenomena are these three: what three? The characteristic of complete imputation, the characteristic of dependence on others, and the characteristic of perfect completion. O Source of Qualities, what is the characteristic of complete imputation of all phenomena? It is whatever is the separate establishment in name and sign of the self-nature or distinction of phenomena by means of language and symbols, for the sake of subsequently applying terms as much as possible. O Source of Qualities, what is the characteristic of dependence on others of all phenomena? It is just the dependent arising of all phenomena; for example, this arising because of that, and this being born because of that being born, for example, from the condition of ignorance, the formations, and so forth, up to the point where only this great mass of suffering will arise. O Source of Qualities, what is the characteristic of perfect completion of all phenomena? It is whatever is the suchness of all phenomena, which is realized by bodhisattvas through the cause of diligence and the cause of proper attention, and by perfecting the familiarization with that realization, it is also perfectly accomplished up to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. O Source of Qualities, for example, just as the fault of cataracts arises in the eyes of a person with cataracts, so the characteristic of complete imputation should be viewed. O Source of Qualities, for example, just as in that very sign of cataracts, tangled hair, flies, sesame seeds, blue signs, yellow signs, red signs, or white signs appear, so the characteristic of dependence on others should be viewed. O Source of Qualities, for example, just as a person

When the eyes of that person are completely pure and free from the defect of cataracts, then, for the self-nature realm of that eye, the non-erroneous realm, one should regard it as the nature of the perfectly accomplished. O Source of Qualities, for example, when a very clear crystal encounters the color blue, it will appear like a sapphire and a large beryl; and by mistaking it for a sapphire and a large beryl, it will also cause sentient beings to be deluded. When it encounters the color red, it will appear like a ruby; and by mistaking it for a ruby, it will also cause sentient beings to be deluded. When it encounters the color green, it will appear like an emerald; and by mistaking it for an emerald, it will also cause sentient beings to be deluded. When it encounters the color yellow, it will appear like gold; and by mistaking it for gold, it will also cause sentient beings to be deluded. O Source of Qualities, for example, when a very clear crystal encounters color, like this, for the nature of other-dependence, one should regard it as the habitual imprints of the terminology of the nature of the completely imputed. For example, for a very clear crystal, mistaking it for a sapphire, a large beryl, a ruby, an emerald, and gold, like this, for the nature of other-dependence, one should regard it as clinging to the nature of the completely imputed. O Source of Qualities, for example, the very clear crystal itself, like this, one should regard it as the nature of other-dependence. For example, the very clear crystal itself, for the nature of sapphire, large beryl, ruby, emerald, and gold, in the constant time of constancy and the firm time of firmness, it is not completely established, and it is without self-nature, like this, for the nature of other-dependence, in the nature of the completely imputed, in the constant time of constancy and the firm
