Now, the abandonment of the Bodhisattva vows should be discussed. Even if one has attained a completely pure mind of renunciation, one should still renounce. A Bodhisattva who has renounced the world should give away extra possessions other than the three Dharma robes, and things that are permitted by the Buddha and are in accordance with the enjoyment and happiness of the body. If one gives to beggars after examining their desires individually, there is no fault. If it is for the sake of considering the side of virtue, and not belonging to the category of desire, and one does not give, there is also no fault. If one gives written scriptures to beggars with childish intelligence, it will be a fault. If one begs from others in order to give to them, it will also be a fault. If one thinks that one can enable them to uphold and believe in these profound Dharma teachings, and gives only with such a mind, there is no fault. If one allows sentient beings who have faith in scriptures that resemble the holy Dharma or in treatises of non-Buddhists to copy those scriptures, or gives them scriptures that have already been written, or begs from others to give, it will be a fault. The Bodhisattva should erase the scriptures that have already been written in his hand, or have them copy the Buddha's scriptures, or he himself should fully understand that those scriptures are meaningless, and he should also proclaim the merits of those scriptures to others. If a beggar comes to beg for a scripture that has not been written, the Bodhisattva should ask him: What will you do with it? If he says: I will sell it to enjoy. If the Bodhisattva thinks that the scripture is prepared for the sake of the Dharma, he should not give it to him, but if he has money, he should give him money. If he has no money, there is no fault even if he does not give either. If the scripture is not prepared for the sake of the Dharma, but for the sake of being able to enjoy it at will, then that scripture should be given to him. Similarly, if other

If one wants to ask about a very inferior treatise, and begs for it, there is no fault even if it is not given. Just as one wants to ask about a very inferior treatise, it is the same if one wants to ask about a middling treatise. If one wants to ask about a particularly excellent treatise, and begs for it, it should be known that it is a fault if it is not given. This is because if a Bodhisattva, following the signs of benefiting beings they want to benefit, generates friendly thoughts with a mind mixed with stinginess and a completely biased manner, it will become a fault. If, towards beings who harm, they follow the signs of harming, and generate enemy thoughts with a troubled mind and a mind that completely regards them as enemies, it will become a fault. If, towards beings who neither harm nor benefit, they generate ordinary thoughts and thoughts of indifference, it will become a fault. If someone comes to request ordination, and, following the faults of the time and the faults of the degenerate age, does not allow them to ordain, then there is no fault. If they draw near with a compassionate mind and allow them to ordain, there is also no fault. Just as with ordination, bestowing full ordination, giving a place to stay, and gathering a retinue should also be understood in the same way. In these ways, the three aggregates of a Bodhisattva's discipline should be known to be complete. Among these, the summary of the extensive teachings on giving, etc., will be taught. Among these, the giving of Bodhisattvas, in short, if it possesses five qualities, then it enters the category called the perfection of giving. What are the five? They are: non-attachment, non-expectation, faultlessness, non-discrimination, and complete dedication. Just as with giving, the same should be understood for discipline, etc. Among these, non-attachment is non-attachment to all phenomena that are obstacles to giving, etc.

What is it that does not exist? Regarding that, not looking at it, not having the mind attached to impurity and its results, what is it? Regarding that, being without fault is the complete abandonment of all kinds of afflictions close to giving and so on, what is it? Regarding that, being without conceptualization is not seeing giving and so on as the nature of complete imputation, what is it? Regarding that, complete dedication is praying to attain the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment as the result of all giving and so on, what is it? Therefore, those perfections of the bodhisattvas that are completely grasped by the five qualities are also called the giving of the bodhisattva. They are also called the limit of the bodhisattva's wisdom. They are also called the giving of all. They are also called the limit of all wisdom. They are also called difficult giving. They are also called the limit of difficult wisdom. All the verses of the summary explained in detail in the Basis of the Grounds should be understood accordingly. The perfection of giving has ten kinds of afflictions that are close, relying on inner and outer. As an antidote to them, in the position of the bodhisattva, the ten kinds of pure perfection of giving are shown, which should be understood in the order of arising from one. Among them, the afflictions that are close and rely on the outside are five kinds: complete affliction, abandonment, no attachment with love, complete fulfillment of what is thought in the mind, and complete maturation. The afflictions that are close and rely on the inside are also five kinds: not being definitive, being completely afflicted, not possessing strength, possessing partiality, and being of the nature of decay. In the chapter on ethics, in the ten kinds of pure ethics that are shown, one kind shows the purity of intention. It should be understood that the remaining ones show the purity of action. Among them, there are five kinds of action: uninterrupted action, completely purifying action, completely dedicating action, action of companionship, and action of protection. That is also of two kinds.
