Or, although mostly observing and examining hidden things, one will not be completely attached. Just as one is not completely attached to things that cause complete attachment, one will also not be angry with things that cause anger, and one will not be completely deluded by things that cause complete delusion. Similarly, when the eye sees forms, one will neither be happy nor unhappy, but will abide in equanimity with mindfulness and awareness. Just as the eye sees forms, so it is until the mind sees phenomena. Similarly, by nature, one is of few desires, possessing the perfection of few desires. Just as one is of few desires, so it is with contentment, extreme solitude, diligence, mindfulness, samadhi, and wisdom. By nature, one delights in non-elaboration, and the mind enters by separately examining elaborations, so those similar to this should be recognized as signs of abandoning afflictions. The benefits of abandoning afflictions should be known to be many, such as obtaining liberation from suffering and displeasure, obtaining liberation from happiness and pleasure, obtaining liberation from form, obstruction, and various concepts, obtaining complete liberation from the suffering of the lower realms, obtaining complete liberation from the suffering of birth and so on, obtaining expiration, obtaining the ultimate expiration, obtaining coolness, obtaining the ultimate coolness, obtaining the supreme of abiding happily in this life, and being able to control one's own mind, wandering and abiding as one pleases, and also possessing the nature of non-retrogression, all one's own benefits are perfected, and one does not need to make special efforts for all activities. Some of these are beneficial to others, beneficial to many people, happiness to many people, and loving to the world.

These are the afflictions. For example, those born in higher realms think that they are permanent, stable, happy, pure, and endowed with particularly superior qualities compared to sentient beings in lower realms, and therefore they have pride. Focusing on what is not an object means, for example, the afflictions that focus on the cessation of what is completely conceptualized, the path, and all the vast Buddha-dharma that is completely conceptualized by it. What is the arising of afflictions? Answer: It should be observed that the twenty types of afflictions of twenty types of individuals arise from twenty types of conditions. What are the twenty types of individuals? Answer: Laypeople, renunciants, those with wrong views, those with right views, those who engage in afflictions to a great extent, those who engage in them equally, those with few afflictions, those who are free from desire for the desire realm, those who are not free from desire, those who have seen the ground, those who have not seen the ground, those who are manifest, those who are not manifest, practitioners, those who are asleep, those who are awake, the young, those whose faculties are fully developed, those who are destined for complete nirvana, and those who are not destined for complete nirvana. What are the twenty types of arising of afflictions? Answer: The arising of clinging to what is desired and accepted, the arising of clinging to what is not desired and not accepted, the arising of afflictions that are not individually and correctly known, the arising of afflictions that are individually and correctly known, the arising of coarse afflictions, the arising of equal afflictions, the arising of subtle afflictions, the arising of internally directed afflictions, the arising of externally directed afflictions, the arising of afflictions of forgetfulness, the arising of afflictions of overcoming, the arising of afflictions of complete conceptualization, the arising of afflictions of self-nature, the arising of afflictions of seeking, the arising of afflictions of non-self-control, the arising of afflictions of self-control, the base
