The view of clinging to extremes should be understood as the opposite of that. Holding views as supreme, and holding morality and asceticism as supreme, should be understood as being similarly associated with holding those views as supreme in any way appropriate. Wrong view should be understood as being associated with unpleasantness in whatever is done by those who do good. Whatever is done by those who do evil should be understood as being associated with pleasantness. Pride is sometimes associated with pleasantness and sometimes associated with unpleasantness. How is that? It is said that pride is briefly of two kinds: arrogant pride and humble pride. Among these, arrogant pride should be understood through three kinds of arrogance. What are the three kinds of arrogance? They are: arrogance of complete measurement, arrogance of existence, and arrogance of gain and respect. Among these, arrogant pride is associated with pleasantness. The pride of desire is the opposite of that, and is associated with unpleasantness. Doubt is when others create doubt for those who have certainty about gain or respect, fame or praise, happiness or good rebirth, and this is associated with unpleasantness. When others create doubt for those who have certainty about no gain or no respect, no fame or slander, suffering or bad rebirth, this is associated with pleasantness. Ignorance is associated with all five. The remaining examples of similar associations are not obvious. Therefore, previously, in order not to confuse, a general statement was made about the way in which afflictions and senses are similarly associated, but here, in order to clearly distinguish the various causes of one's own and others' involvement, a detailed statement is made. The categories of afflictions are briefly these three: associated with desire, associated with form, and associated with formlessness. Among these three categories of afflictions, which are unwholesome and which are unspecified? It is said that the first of these

Some are unwholesome. Some are unspecified. Whatever is unwholesome should be regarded as also having a ripening result. Is "many" the self-nature of many, and "few" the self-nature of few? Answer: The first is the self-nature of many. The rest are not so. The self-nature of many and the self-nature of few, just as the degree is large or small, the time is long or short, the nature of having afflictions and the nature of not having afflictions, the all-afflictions arising when looking outward, the all-afflictions arising when looking inward, the all-arising of misconduct, the non-all-arising of misconduct, producing much suffering, producing little suffering, having great faults, having small faults, slowly separating from desire, quickly separating from desire, distinguished by not separating from desire, distinguished by separating from desire, not in accordance with samadhi, not without being in accordance with samadhi, definitely arising in many forms, definitely arising in one form, these should also be understood as such. Intermediate summary: Many and afflicted ones, conduct and suffering self-nature abandoning, faults slow separation from desire, samadhi and arising. How are afflictions eliminated? By how much can it be said that afflictions have been eliminated? From where are afflictions eliminated? Are afflictions eliminated simultaneously or gradually? In what order are afflictions eliminated? How many ways are there to eliminate afflictions? What are the signs of having eliminated afflictions? What are the benefits of having eliminated afflictions? Answer: Afflictions can be eliminated by perfectly accomplishing the collection, entering the path of application, obtaining the ground of seeing, and being completely familiar with the ground of cultivation. From the point of obtaining the ultimate ground, it can be said that afflictions have been eliminated. Another way is that afflictions can be eliminated by cultivating the four yogas. Good!
