It is said that abandonment is achieved through meditation. The four yogas are as follows, as taught in the Hearer's Ground. Another way is that the mind stream is fully matured, and the instructions that are in accordance with it, and the individual's own proper attention, and the generation of antidotes, will abandon the afflictions. It is said that abandonment is achieved by the ultimate antidote. Another way is that by fully knowing the basis of the afflictions, fully knowing the nature of the afflictions, fully knowing the faults of the afflictions, not accepting what has arisen, and fully holding the antidotes, the afflictions will be abandoned. It is said that abandonment is achieved by generating the antidote. Another way is that by being accustomed to calm abiding and being accustomed to insight, the afflictions will be abandoned. It is said that abandonment is achieved by being liberated from the bonds of signs and being liberated from the bonds of bad migrations. As the Blessed One said: If one cultivates calm abiding and insight, one will be liberated from the bonds of bad migrations and from the bonds of signs. Another way is that by fully knowing the object and being delighted in the object, the afflictions will be abandoned. It is said that abandonment is achieved by the cessation of bad migrations and the transformation of the state. Afflictions should be abandoned from what is concordant and from the object. For example, if an antidote arises, afflictions will not arise and will also become of the nature of non-arising, so it is abandoned from what is concordant. If it is abandoned from what is concordant, it is objectified, so it is also abandoned from the object. Afflictions should be understood to be abandoned all at once, not gradually. Why is that? Because through the wisdom of realization, realizing the truth, the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing will be abandoned. And that realization is concordant with the attention that focuses on leading to the truth. Therefore, with three minds, all the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing, such as suffering, etc., which have entered into wrong views, will be abandoned all at once. The afflictions to be abandoned by meditation are abandoned gradually.

Secondly, it should be understood that the path is something to be accustomed to and abandoned. Firstly, it is like this: a householder should abandon all the extremes of unwholesome actions and sinful views. After that, as an obstacle to generating great joy in renunciation, one should abandon the conceptual thoughts of desire, the conceptual thoughts of harm, and the conceptual thoughts of malice. After that, as an obstacle to the samadhi of settling the mind equally, one should abandon the conceptual thoughts of relatives, the conceptual thoughts of objects, and the conceptual thoughts of immortality. After that, as an obstacle to what is obtained by attention, one should abandon the bad physical states that are in accordance with the aspect of not liking solitude. After that, one should abandon the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing. After that, one should abandon the afflictions to be abandoned by meditation. After that, it is related to suffering and unpleasantness. After that, it is related to happiness and pleasantness. After that, it is related to equanimity. After that, one should abandon the obscurations that are in accordance with the aspect of obscuring absorption. After that, among these, some people should abandon the obscurations that are in accordance with the aspect of the obscuration of knowledge, and thus abandon the afflictions in that order. Regarding the abandonment of afflictions, it should be observed that there are many ways. In short, there are two ways in summary: the abandonment of complete entanglement and the abandonment of latent tendencies. Among them, the abandonment of complete entanglement and the abandonment of desire, and the abandonment of hatred, and up to the abandonment of doubt, and the abandonment of the view of the aggregates, and up to the abandonment of wrong views, and the abandonment of what is to be abandoned by seeing suffering, and the abandonment of what is to be abandoned by meditation, and up to the abandonment of desire, and the abandonment related to the formless, and the abandonment of distraction, and the abandonment of others' planting, and the abandonment of frivolousness, and the abandonment of suppression, and the abandonment of separation. Among them, what is the abandonment of separation, that should be observed as the abandonment of latent tendencies. Among them, the abandonment of afflictions is that even the inferior dharma that will always generate attachment will meet with excellence.
