The object is suchness, and only the signless is entered. At that time, the conduct of its wisdom is like that. The establishment of the path of seeing is twofold: the flourishing establishment of the doctrine's abiding, which is with elaboration, and the establishment of the ultimate truth, each of whose awareness is without elaboration. Among these, with regard to the first establishment, four minds that are in accordance with the aspect of the knowledge of dharma, and four minds that are in accordance with the aspect of subsequent knowledge, and as long as those eight minds arise, one who has fully cultivated calm abiding will also arise immediately after them. When these are combined, they become nine minds, and with these, the path of seeing will be completely perfected. As long as the knowledge of how the truth of suffering is designated is perfected, it is said to be one mind. With regard to the second establishment, only one that is in accordance with the knowledge of suchness, starting from the nature of mind, the path of seeing will be completely perfected. Here, the path of calm abiding should be viewed as before. Among these, the latent predispositions of the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing are established in two ways: first, in relation to form, and second, in relation to mind and mental factors. Therefore, since the path of seeing is entered through the union of calm abiding and insight, the noble Hearer simultaneously abandons both the latent predispositions to be abandoned by calm abiding and those to be abandoned by insight. Among these, the first is to be abandoned by insight, and the second is to be abandoned by calm abiding, therefore it is said that the path of seeing is complete. If those wisdoms that belong to the aspect of insight arise in connection with the latent predispositions to be abandoned by the path of seeing, and do not subdue them with the power of the antidote, then it is not possible. Therefore, the Blessed One also said that the follower of faith and the follower of dharma are the second and sixth persons who have entered the path of seeing.

One abides in the signless. The other five—those who delight in faith, those who see, those who realize with the body, those who are liberated by wisdom, and those who are liberated from both parts—also abide in the cessation with the perception of peace. Therefore, it is said that one abides in the signless. For example, when a doctor extracts a boil, some people, knowing that the boil is fully ripe, first pierce it with a sharp knife. As much as it is pierced, so much pus will flow out, but not all the pus will flow out. If it is torn and thoroughly squeezed, and squeezed again and again, then whatever pus has accumulated will be removed, but the wound will not be clean and healed. To heal the wound, one applies flour wine dregs or oily cheese. Thus, the wound that has been treated with flour wine dregs or oily cheese will gradually heal. This is like an example made for the purpose of understanding the meaning. Therefore, one should look at the meaning in this way: just as a boil ripens, one should observe objects such as the source of defilements that are to be abandoned by seeing. Just as piercing with a knife, one should observe the path of seeing that belongs to the aspect of higher vision. Just as squeezing, one should observe the path of seeing that belongs to the aspect of calm abiding. Just as pus, one should observe the latent defilements that are to be abandoned by seeing. Just as an unclean, unhealed wound, one should observe the defilements, including the four that are to be abandoned by meditation. Just as flour wine dregs or oily cheese that is applied to a wound, one should observe the path of meditation. Among these, whatever causes an ordinary person to be free from desire from the desire realm or the form realm is accomplished only through the path of meditation, and the path of seeing has no power over it. To be free from desire from the desires is to be free from desire, anger, and the pride associated with the dharma that is in accordance with it, and the corresponding

Ignorance is abandoned by way of non-arising everywhere, but those to be abandoned by seeing the view of the aggregates, etc., are not like that. Those also here, abiding in this body, arising in that, then arise many times everywhere, but do not arise in those born above. Similarly, individuals who are separated from desire for form, except for anger, the other afflictions should be observed accordingly. Those who are in absorption, arising, and born, the outflows to be abandoned by the sight of their own ground, if they meet with conditions, then they always arise everywhere. In this, the latent tendencies are summarized into two types: the latent tendencies of outflows and the latent tendencies with outflows. Among them, for the Arhat, whatever is the latent tendency of outflows, because of abandoning the afflictions to be abandoned by cultivation, therefore in all of all are separated. That is, the body with latent tendencies and with consciousness, in an unsuitable way, the very place where it dwells badly. The latent tendency with outflows, although the latent tendencies have been abandoned, but previously generated by outflows and completely perfumed by outflows, similar to that, in an unsuitable way, naturally dwelling badly and entering badly, what is extremely subtle and extremely small. Whatever is the latent tendency with outflows is called the habit of afflictions, and this is not abandoned by the Arhat and the Pratyekabuddha, but only by the Tathagata. Whatever is the complete destruction of its habits is called the unshared Dharma of the Buddha. This is called the fivefold distinction of the pervasiveness of afflictions. Thirteenth fascicle. The Blessed One said that the all-imagining desire is the desire of a person, why is it that only the desire of afflictions is shown as the word of desire, and not the desire of things? Answer: Because the nature of the desires of afflictions is pervasive defilement. Furthermore, it is only the desires of afflictions that make the desires of things become desires. Furthermore, the desires of things
