Regarding holding the correct acceptance of discipline as supreme, with the aim of purification, liberation, and definite arising, and holding asceticism as supreme, these are wrongly entering the path. The remainder should be viewed as with regard to the truth of cessation. Just as afflictions such as desire wrongly enter the truth of the path, so too those eight latent tendencies are also wrongly entering the truth of the path and are to be abandoned by seeing the path. These are called the outflows to be abandoned by seeing. What are the outflows to be abandoned by cultivation? Anger that operates in the desire realm, and the three that operate in the three realms: desire, pride, and ignorance. These too will be abandoned by becoming extremely familiar with the path, therefore they are called those to be abandoned by cultivation. In realm after realm and ground after ground, there are small, medium, and large types, three each. In order to abandon these, the path also becomes only three types: the small path enters in order to abandon the large outflows. The medium path is for the medium outflows. The great path enters in order to abandon the small outflows. Those outflows to be abandoned by cultivation also, by their very nature, enter into objects that are possessed of outflows, and have existed since a long time ago. Therefore, since they are difficult to separate, they are wrongly entering into their own objects. This is called the wrong entry of the all-afflictive afflictions, and the establishment of the detailed classification of what is to be abandoned. The objects of the outflows to be abandoned by seeing and by cultivation, as explained above, should be understood as five types in brief: focusing on objects that are wrongly conceptualized, focusing on views, focusing on discipline and asceticism, focusing on names that are conceptualized by oneself, and focusing on objects that inherently exist by their own nature. Among these, those that focus on the truths of suffering and origin are called focusing on objects that are wrongly conceptualized. Holding views as supreme, except for doubt, and those to be abandoned by seeing, such as desire, are called focusing on views as supreme.

Taking adherence to discipline and asceticism as supreme is called focusing on discipline and asceticism. Focusing on cessation and the path, and focusing on different realms, are called focusing on names that one has conceptually constructed. Because afflictions never focus on cessation and the path, do not intend to focus on cessation and the path, and will not focus on cessation and the path, and also not on different realms. Those that are to be abandoned through cultivation are called focusing on things that are inherently existent by their own nature. Then, how is the differentiation of the antidotes to the afflictions that are all-afflictive established? That can be briefly summarized into four types of observation: the antidote that fully ripens the continuum, the antidote of proximate abandonment, the antidote of partial abandonment, and the antidote of complete abandonment. Among them, all the thirteen paths of accumulation as taught in the Hearer's Ground are called the antidote that fully ripens the continuum. The roots of virtue that are in accordance with the aspects of ascertainment, namely the heat, peak, forbearance, and the supreme mundane dharma, as taught in the Hearer's Ground itself, are called the antidote of proximate abandonment. Among them, the path of seeing is called the antidote of partial abandonment. The path of cultivation is called the antidote of complete abandonment. Then, what is the wisdom conduct of a noble being who has entered the path of seeing? With how many minds does the path of seeing become complete? Are the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing abandoned all at once, or gradually, or how are they abandoned? The wisdom conduct of a noble being who has entered the path of seeing is signless. Although wisdom focuses on suffering, at that time, with respect to the object of suffering, there does not arise the conceptual thought or grasping at signs of "this is suffering." Just as with suffering, so it is with the origin, cessation, and path. At that time, the truths that were previously analyzed by conventional wisdom, because they are liberated from previous concepts and signs, therefore, with liberated wisdom, without elaboration, one knows only the meaning.
