Oṃ. The future is that which has not occurred and is without form. Therefore, there is nothing to be abandoned in it. That which occurs in the present with latent tendencies does not last longer than a moment, because two minds, one with latent tendencies and one without, do not coexist. Therefore, what occurs in the present is not abandoned either. However, from attending properly to the sounds of others and to one's own nature, the mind that is the antidote to afflictions—endowed with right view—arises, and its opposite, the mind with latent tendencies, ceases. Thus, the time of its arising is the same as the time of its cessation, so its arising and cessation should be understood as occurring simultaneously. Among these, the mind endowed with right view, which is the antidote to afflictions, is the present occurrence without latent tendencies. What has passed beyond that moment is the past without latent tendencies. The future is also without latent tendencies. Thus, if the state is transformed and the continuum of latent tendencies is completely severed, then the subsequent worldly virtue and the mind that is not specified, and whatever arises later in the past, future, and present, are also without latent tendencies. Therefore, the past is said to be abandoned, and the present and future are also said to be abandoned. Thus, this is the differentiation of the complete purification of afflictions and all-afflictions. Among these, what is the establishment of the differentiation of the wrong practices of afflictions and all-afflictions, and what should be abandoned? In short, one should observe fifteen aspects: suffering associated with desire, origin, cessation, the path of seeing, and the defilements to be abandoned by cultivation; just as the five are for those associated with desire, so too are those associated with form and those associated with formlessness. Among these, in the suffering of conduct in the desire realm, all ten afflictions are wrongly engaged. In the origin, except for the view of the aggregates as self and the view of holding to extremes, eight afflictions are wrongly engaged. Just as in the origin, so too in the cessation and the path. In the higher realms, anger arises towards all truths.

Apart from these, with regard to the desire realm, one should understand in sequence how they enter into reversal just as they are. How do the ten latent tendencies enter into reversal with respect to the truth of suffering? In short, with regard to what is said, "The five aggregates of grasping are suffering," children, out of the twenty views of the aggregates, grasp the five aggregates as self with five views, and the rest grasp them as belonging to self. Thus, one should see that the view of the aggregates is an entry into reversal with respect to the truth of suffering. Relying on that very view of the aggregates, they truly follow the five aggregates of grasping as permanent or impermanent. Therefore, the view of extremes is also an entry into reversal with respect to suffering. As for the wrong view that says, "The results of well-done and ill-done actions do not mature," and the wrong view that says, "There is no father, no mother, no spontaneously born being," one part of it is an entry into reversal with respect to suffering, and one part is with respect to origin. Furthermore, the wrong view of the non-Buddhists who slander the truth of suffering, and the statement that the truth of suffering established by the ascetic Gautama for the hearers does not exist, are also entries into reversal with respect to suffering. The wrong view that sees the lord of power, the lord of beings, Indra, Brahma, and others similar to them as permanent, stable, and lasting is also an entry into reversal with respect to suffering. The wrong view of those who speak of having an end and not having an end is also an entry into reversal with respect to suffering. One part of the wrong view of those ascetics and Brahmins who speak of the annihilation of gods and humans is also an entry into reversal with respect to the truth of suffering. The view of holding views as supreme, which holds those views that have entered into reversal with respect to the truth of suffering as sacred and supreme, and which sees that one will become purified, liberated, and definitely freed by them, is also an entry into reversal with respect to the truth of suffering.
