That very place naturally does not scatter, and naturally does not produce all afflictions. If one does not have those four types of taming the senses, then those senses should be regarded as untamed, because they are not concealed, not guarded, not restrained, and not cultivated. If one possesses those four types of taming the senses, then one should view the state between extreme taming and extreme cultivation as the opposite of that. If the untamed produce suffering, what is the reason? It is said: Because they produce six types of suffering. Namely: suffering arising from being completely in a state of affliction; suffering of decline from others; suffering of being denigrated by others; suffering arising from regret; suffering arising from going to bad destinies; and suffering of birth and so on. Extreme taming, on the other hand, is the opposite of that, because it abandons the six types of suffering, so it should be regarded as producing happiness. Do the fourteen faculties and the three assemblies of sentient beings—do the fourteen include the three, or do the three include the fourteen? It is said: The three include the fourteen, but the fourteen do not include the three. What is not included? It is the aspect of external sense bases. The three assemblies of sentient beings should be regarded as those who abide in desire, form, and formlessness. Do the five faculties and the three feelings—do the five include the three, or do the three include the five? It is said: They should be regarded as including each other. Do the five faculties and the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment—do the five include the thirty-seven, or do the thirty-seven include the five? It is said: The thirty-seven include the five, but the five do not include the thirty-seven. What is not included? It is right speech, the limit of action, livelihood, joy, extreme pliancy, and equanimity. Thus, these six, or the four dharmas, are not included. Do the other five faculties and the three faculties—do the five include the three, or do the three include the five? It is said: The three include the five, but the five do not include the three. What is not

If what is not included? The mind faculty, pleasure, mental pleasure, and equanimity are not included. If the nine kinds of complete knowledge are included in which faculties? It is said that the complete knowledges are not included in any faculty, because all complete knowledges are included in the complete knowledge of abandonment. So, what are these nine complete knowledges? Abandoning what is to be abandoned by seeing the suffering and origin associated with desire is the first complete knowledge. Abandoning those related to the form and formless realms is the second. Abandoning what is to be abandoned by seeing the cessation associated with desire is the third. Abandoning those related to the upper realms is the fourth. Abandoning what is to be abandoned by seeing the path of the lower and upper realms is the fifth and sixth complete knowledge. Abandoning what is related to the final part is the seventh. The eighth is through the exhaustion of desire for the form realm. The ninth complete knowledge is established through the exhaustion of desire for the formless realm. In short, it should be observed that all complete knowledges are distinguished by two causes: abandoning through realizing the truth and abandoning through completely transcending from the realm. Among them, the first two are distinguished by the same characteristic and different realms, and the same. The other four are distinguished by different characteristics and different realms, and the same. Another is distinguished by completely transcending from the lower realm. It should be observed that the other two complete knowledges are distinguished by completely transcending from the intermediate realm and completely transcending from the good realm. Which faculties include the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, such as the marks and excellent signs, powers, and fearlessnesses? It is said that the marks and excellent signs are included by the tongue faculty, the fourth faculty, the body faculty, the male faculty, the eye faculty, and the places of the tongue faculty. The ten powers are included by the wisdom faculty like an arrow in the mindstream of the Tathagata and the faculty endowed with omniscience. The four fearlessnesses are included by the fifth and the only one. The four fearlessnesses are also included by those without protection as they are.

Yes. How many faculties are included in the three mindfulnesses? Answer: No faculty includes them, but they are included in non-attachment and non-hatred, which are truly accomplished by the six faculties. Great compassion is also not included in any faculty, but it is included in non-hatred and non-ignorance, which are truly accomplished by these faculties. The nature of not forgetting should be viewed as strength. All aspects and supreme wisdom should also be viewed as strength. The complete destruction of habitual tendencies is not included in any faculty, but it is included in the abandonment of afflictions, which is truly accomplished by the six faculties. When an Arhat has completely abandoned all evil destinies that are in accordance with the aggregates of afflictions, what is the aspect of evil destiny that the Arhat has not abandoned? Is it because the Tathagata has abandoned it that it is said to be the complete destruction of habitual tendencies? Answer: The Arhat has not abandoned that which is in accordance with the aspect of ripening, but the Tathagata has abandoned it. The Blessed One said: These four foods enter for the increase of the faculties and the great elements. What are these four foods? For the increase of which faculties and great elements do they enter? Answer: The four foods are coarse food, contact, mental intention, and consciousness. The faculties are the five physical faculties and the mental faculty. The great elements are the great elements that are the basis of the faculties. What is coarse food? Answer: Whatever is used to increase the faculties and the great elements is food, and what is not food should be viewed as the opposite. Just as with coarse food, the rest should also be viewed as food and non-food in the same way. How does coarse food perform the function of food? Similarly, how do the intervals up to consciousness food perform the function of food? Answer: By strength, it helps consciousness, and by having strength, it also increases those faculties and great elements. Contact helps consciousness with pleasure, joy, and equanimity.
