Whatever the result, it should be regarded as arising in dependence on dependent origination. Because the latent predispositions of ignorance have not been abandoned, the complete delusion of ignorance arises. Because the complete delusion of ignorance arises, the activity of actions arises. Similarly, because the seed of actions has not been abandoned, actions arise. Because actions arise, the activity of consciousness arises. Similarly, the manner of the activity of the remaining limbs of dependent origination should also be understood appropriately. Among these, existence, birth, and old age and death should be understood as imputed phenomena. The remaining limbs of existence should be understood as substantially existent phenomena. Among these, the detailed classification of dependent origination is established in five ways. What are the five? They are the place of the cause that throws suffering, the place of the cause that manifestly accomplishes suffering, the cause that throws suffering, the cause that manifestly accomplishes suffering, and suffering itself that is manifestly accomplished. Among these, in this life, the six sense bases manifestly accomplished due to the cause of name and form have not been abandoned, and whatever is not completely understood, focusing on that and abiding in that, the universal bewilderment that arises in the bodies of children is called ignorance. Conditioned by ignorance, actions arise after that, and in the next life, conditioned by contact, it will arise up to feeling. These six sense bases are called the place of the cause that throws ignorance and so forth. Thus, conditioned by the contact of universal bewilderment, feeling arises in this very life, and abiding in that, craving arises for external objects. Conditioned by craving, grasping arises after that. Conditioned by grasping, existence arises. Thus, the place of the cause that manifestly accomplishes should be regarded as the feeling arising from the condition of contact. Among these, the consciousness of this life is completely imbued with merit, non-merit, and unwavering karma. Conditioned by ignorance, actions arise, and between the arising of feeling conditioned by contact, those that possess the seeds of future lives are

From the destruction of one body, it causes the arising of consciousness and so on in the next life, and brings about other sufferings named birth, old age, and death. This is called the cause of bringing about suffering. Among these, craving arises from the condition of feeling, grasping arises from the condition of craving, and existence arises from the condition of grasping. These are called the cause of the manifestation of suffering in the next life. That which is completely seized by previously performed actions and afflictions, and which tends towards future birth, should be regarded as existence. Birth arises from the condition of existence, and old age and death arise from the condition of birth. These are called the manifestation of suffering. Consciousness, name and form, and so on, up to the ultimate of feeling, when they previously possess the nature of seeds, then they will obtain the name of the cause of bringing about suffering. These same things, having already produced the fruit, obtain the name of suffering called birth, old age, and death. Among these, ignorance should be regarded as the nature of obscuring dharmas, arising from the mind, which is contrary to wisdom. It is not merely the absence of wisdom, nor is it merely wrong knowledge. Why is that? If ignorance were merely the absence of wisdom, then it would not have small, medium, and large degrees, because for something that does not exist, there is no small, medium, or large. Furthermore, it would not be possible to establish the latent tendencies and pervasive entanglements of ignorance. Because for something that does not exist, its nature is the same at all times, so it is impossible for there to be both pervasive action and subsequent connection. Moreover, the minds of ordinary individuals, whether afflicted, virtuous, or neutral, all minds that are separated from wisdom would also become without wisdom. Therefore, all those minds would become afflicted. Furthermore, a dharma of the nature of non-existence cannot be included by conditioned phenomena, nor can it be included by unconditioned phenomena. That which is neither included by conditioned phenomena nor included by unconditioned phenomena will neither become completely defiled nor become completely purified. Furthermore, in the mindstream that has not separated from ignorance, wisdom will always arise.
