It is said: It possesses (characteristics such as arising and ceasing) like other things. In order to fully understand that the nature of mind is inherently luminous, and that defiled and undefiled dharmas increase and decrease, it is also necessary to distinguish them. Some Shramanas and Brahmins believe that there is only a mind in name, existing as a real entity, but they do not acknowledge the dharmas arising from the mind. These views are also unreasonable. Why? Because firstly, it is unreasonable to say that there are only five skandhas. If it is thought that there are only five grounds due to the difference in states, then the recognition of the difference in states is also problematic. Why? Because between these states, either there is a difference in the ability to interact with each other, or there is not, and both cases lead to problems. If there is, then because of the different characteristics, it will become real different things. If there is not, then it is meaningless to think that there are other states. It is also not possible to be like the different states of the six consciousnesses. Why? Because the collection of these six consciousnesses has different places and objects. These states cannot aim at the same object. It is also not possible from the perspective of complete understanding. Why? Because for form, different states are possible because they have complete change, but for formless things, it is not possible, just like milk, yogurt, ghee, etc. Since there is no special cause, the state of mind changing to another state is not possible. In one instant, there is no special cause that can show other states, so the difference in states is also not possible. The existence of only mind as a real entity is also not possible because it contradicts the scriptures. What contradicts the scriptures? It is said in the scriptures: The mind defiled by desire, the mind defiled by hatred and ignorance, will not be liberated. What contradiction is there in this? It is said: If there is only one mind, two (afflictions and liberation) cannot arise simultaneously, then desire and so on will not depend on consciousness, which is unreasonable.

It is appropriate. Even if one thinks that consciousness is the forerunner, then the fault would be completely indistinguishable. The Blessed One also said that co-emergent feeling, perception, and formation, these dharmas are mixed, not unmixed, and if these dharmas are separated, after separating, one cannot point out the difference, thought, or different function. In order to fully establish the meaning of mixture, the example of the light of a lamp is given. Therefore, if there is no co-emergence, the saying of mixture is also inappropriate. The sutra says, "This person has six elements," this is also with intention, so there is no fault. So, what is the intention in it? The answer is: the intention should be regarded as mainly showing the place of form and complete movement and mind-born dharmas. Because it contradicts this, the antidote scripture is also pointed out. So, what is the antidote scripture? The Blessed One used the example of milk, yogurt, and ghee, some say it is the coarse self born of the four great elements, some say it is born of the mind with form, and some say it is the nature of consciousness without form, just as it is said. If so, will it become only the four great elements? Or only the mind? Or only consciousness? Therefore, showing those and such aspects should be regarded as intentional. Therefore, the four non-form aggregates summarized by name, called mind and mind-born dharmas, they are mutually equally possessed, this is fully established. Intermediate summary: The five are unreasonable, because its state has faults, because the cause of the author has no difference, because it will contradict the scriptures. The mastery of the entity of aggregates ends here. Ninth chapter. What is the eye element? The answer is: abandoning the five eyes, or abandoning that which is completely grasped by the life force. Just like the eye element, it is the same up to between the mind consciousness element and a part of the dharma element. What is the form element? Whatever form is produced by the power of the root, that is it.
