Thus it is. Relying on the last, one should only observe the craving that is associated with attachment to the body. Among these, what is craving? It is that which clings to and unites with body and speech. Furthermore, what causes existence to arise? It is the desire for the particularity of future bodies. What is it to possess desire and attachment with joy? It is to be manifestly inclined towards desirable objects such as forms, sounds, smells, tastes, tangible objects, and dharmas, or to possess joyful desire and attachment for those things that have been obtained. What is manifest delight in this and that? It is the desire for desirable objects such as forms other than those. Why should the truth of cessation be viewed in four aspects? It is said: Because the cessation of craving is thoroughly distinguished in four aspects. Why should the truth of the path be viewed in four aspects? It is said: Because there are four aspects that cause the cessation of craving to arise. In the Hearer's Ground, with ten aspects such as the aspect of destruction, that is the truth of suffering. If one analyzes with ten aspects, then it falls into four aspects. Change and destruction, separation and proximity, and the aspect of nature, complete combination and bondage, unpleasantness and no real happiness, the aspect of no object and no independence, those aspects are understood by knowledge. Among what was said, what is it to have no object? It is merely the senses, merely the objects, merely the experience arising from them, merely the mind, merely the name of "self" and "what belongs to self", merely the view, merely the expression, apart from those seven aspects, the characteristic of a self that has become a different meaning, that is what it is to have no object. What is it to have no independence? It is that which, by the nature of impermanence and suffering of dependent arising, does not have the nature of self in conditioned things. Among those ten aspects, which one summarizes the suffering of change? It is said: It is summarized by the aspect of complete combination. Unpleasantness arising from the power of change should be regarded as the suffering of change. Change alone is not itself, because it is also the object for those who are free from unpleasantness, and it does not harm them. Which aspect summarizes the suffering of suffering?

Asked: How is it summarized by the aspect of unpleasantness? Answer: By the aspect of unpleasantness. Asked: By what aspect is the suffering of conditioning summarized? Answer: By the aspect of no accomplishment and no pleasure. Of those aspects mentioned from the suffering of birth up to, in short, 'the five aggregates of grasping are suffering,' how many are summarized by the suffering of suffering itself? Answer: The first five. Asked: How many are summarized by the suffering of change itself? Answer: The middle two. Asked: How many are summarized by the suffering of conditioning itself? Answer: The last one. Alternatively, the first seven are summarized by the suffering of suffering itself. Their antidotes, the virtuous qualities, and the afflictions are summarized by the suffering of change itself. Everything is summarized by the suffering of conditioning itself. For example, the Blessed One said, 'The mind that is broken and changed,' and similarly, the Blessed One said, 'That which is completely entangled by obscurations, that is because of separately experiencing the suffering arising from the mind born from it, and discomfort.' Therefore, it is well established that afflictions are suffering by the suffering of change itself. Of the four kinds of suffering, namely, the suffering of manifestation, the suffering dependent on the internal, the suffering dependent on the external, and the suffering of bad circumstances, which suffering is summarized by which aspect, and which suffering summarizes which aspect? Answer: The first aspect and the first suffering summarize each other. The three aspects and the next two sufferings also summarize each other. The other three aspects and the next three sufferings also summarize each other. The last aspect and the last suffering also summarize each other. Previously, the truth of the origin was established by elaborately distinguishing the nature of craving, thus showing four aspects. Now, it should be viewed from the elaborate distinction of the result, because they produce four kinds of suffering. Of those sixteen aspects, how many are aspects of emptiness? Answer: There are two, namely, the truth of suffering.
