What is the distinction of virtue? Answer: Thus, in the reality of the ground, it is shown from one aspect to ten aspects. Moreover, virtue is superior to the antidote to all afflictions, and it is also superior to the pacification of all afflictions. It is also superior to the complete holding of the desired fruit. The mind is also superior to the purity of the continuum. It is also superior to making stupas. It is also superior to benefiting sentient beings. Thus, those that are in accordance with such things should be known as the distinctions of virtue. There is no fault in virtue. What are its benefits? Answer: The benefits of virtue are many.

And the antidote to extending the rope, and the antidote to being completely entangled by desire and commitment, and the antidote to being completely entangled without desire and commitment, and the antidote to dormancy, and the antidote to small afflictions, and the antidote to medium afflictions, and the antidote to great afflictions, and the antidote to distraction, and the antidote to sowing in others, and the antidote to teasing, and the antidote to suppression, and the antidote to separation. Among them, afflicted dharmas are well distinguished by two aspects: afflictions and near afflictions. Now, first, let's explain based on the afflictions, and after that, the near afflictions will be explained. How many places are there for afflictions? It is said: Six, namely, objects that are associated with ignorance, pleasant, and completely defiled; objects that are associated with ignorance, unpleasant, and completely defiled; objects that are associated with inappropriate attention and completely defiled; the five aggregates of one's own close acquisition associated with ignorance; and inferior beings, equal beings, and superior beings, and the perversion towards what should be obtained but has not been obtained, the perversion towards qualities, listening to non-holy Dharma associated with ignorance and inappropriate attention, listening to non-holy Dharma and laziness associated with ignorance and inappropriate attention. Among them, the first is because of the obvious joy in encountering. The second is because of the obvious joy in separation. The third is because of the perversion of the object. The fourth is because of competing and manifesting pride. The fifth is because of obviously clinging to and practicing wrong Dharma. The sixth should be known as the place because of not practicing and not regressing. What is the nature of affliction? It is also six kinds, namely, desire, anger, ignorance, pride, view, and doubt. Which affliction should be said to be associated with which affliction? It is said: Ignorance

It possesses similarity with everything. Doubt is not the same as anything. Desire and anger are not mutually the same. Desire and anger themselves are pride and views, sometimes when desire arises, one becomes arrogant or discriminates. Just as desire arises, so does hatred arise in the same way. Pride and views also sometimes possess similarity to each other, when one becomes arrogant, one discriminates. Among these afflictions, how many exist conventionally? How many exist substantially? It is said: Views exist conventionally, because they are a part of wisdom. The rest exist substantially, and are mind and mental factors. How are they distinguished as small, medium, and large? It is said: Those that are abandoned last of all are the small ones. Those that are abandoned in the middle are the medium ones. Those that are abandoned first are the large ones. Furthermore, the greatness of afflictions can be known in six ways: that is, the afflictions that arise in desire should be known as being great by nature; likewise, previous habits; likewise, abiding in a place, that is, those that belong to those whose faculties are fully matured; likewise, those that are impossible to accomplish, that is, those that belong to beings who have the nature of not being able to completely transcend suffering; likewise, those that are inappropriate, that is, those that involve speech about gurus and objects of generosity, etc.; and those that are associated with karma, that is, those afflictions that arise from karma and are close at hand, should be known as being great. When afflictions arise, what is the basis from which afflictions arise?
