If you ask me if I will be born? The answer is: These four, namely desire, certainty, familiarity, and close examination, are arranged in order. Among them, samadhi and wisdom are the last. The rest are the first three in order. Then, which aggregates other than these can be summarized by name? Should those things that are in accordance with the mind be said to arise from proximity, or feeling, or certainty? The answer is: For the mind that is of the same kind as it, it should be said that it is of the same kind. These four non-form aggregates should be said to be mixed, not unmixed. If it is said that these dharmas cannot be specifically designated when separated, then why are things that have been established as different entities said to have no difference because of mixing? The answer is: In order to approach the object after gathering, and in order to fully understand the meaning. Otherwise, if any one is missing, that meaning cannot be complete. Then, how many names are there for mind and mental factors? The answer is: Very many, such as: having an object, having the same, having an image, having a place, and so on, and similar to this. If the eye and so on also have objects, why are they themselves with objects, and the eye and so on are not? The answer is: Because they will arise even without an object, but the mind and mental factors are not like this. Why is it called having the same? The answer is: Because the nature is the same, the object is the same, the time is the same, and the action is the same. Why is it called having an image? The answer is: Because one object can enter into many images. Why is it called having a place? The answer is: Because it has the nature of entering into various places. If you ask: There is no conditioned dharma that does not exist, then, the measure of the place mentioned here does not refer to the scope of this meaning. Why is the part that does not conform to pleasant feeling painful feeling?

Furthermore: That which is dissimilar to the feeling of suffering is called the feeling of happiness. Is that which is dissimilar to the feeling of happiness and suffering called the feeling that is neither suffering nor happiness? Answer: Because it is dissimilar to its own kind, it is dissimilar. Furthermore: Why is the similar part of the feeling that is neither suffering nor happiness called ignorance? Answer: Because it is a friend to feeling and all defilements, it is a similar part. Furthermore: Why is the antidote to ignorance called wisdom? Answer: Because the dissimilar aspect and the antidote aspect are the antidote. Furthermore: Why is the near part of wisdom called Nirvana? Answer: Because it is related to cause and effect, it is a near part. So, how should the four non-form aggregates be established as virtuous? How should they be established as non-virtuous? How should they be established as indeterminate? The summary of all these without distinction is: place and nature, as well as, similar possession and conventional, small and so on, basic differences, qualities, faults, and dissimilar aspects. Among them, what are the virtuous places? In short, there are six, namely: the time of determination, the time of turning away, the time of action, the time of worldly purification, the time of transcendental purification, and the time of benefiting sentient beings. What is the nature? Namely: faith, shame, modesty, non-attachment, non-hatred, non-delusion, diligence, extreme pliancy, caution, equanimity, and non-harming. Thus, these are the nature of all virtuous dharmas. So, how should one observe these dharmas as possessing each other similarly? Answer: In the time of determination, it is similarly possessed with difference. In the time of turning away from all defilements, it is shame and modesty relying on self and others. In the time of engaging in the action of the virtuous aspect, it is non-attachment, non-hatred, non-delusion, and diligence.

When free from worldly desire, it is a time of extreme taming. When transcending the world and free from desire, it is a time of mindfulness and equanimity. When benefiting sentient beings, it is non-harming, because it is encompassed by compassion. Among these virtuous dharmas, which exist nominally? Which exist substantially? It is said: Three exist nominally, namely mindfulness, equanimity, and non-harming. Mindfulness and equanimity are parts of non-attachment, non-hatred, non-ignorance, and diligence, because these dharmas are equanimity in the sense of being free from all afflictions, and are established as mindfulness in the sense of being the antidote to all afflictions. Non-harming is a part of non-hatred. What is a small root of virtue? It is said: What is the antidote to the great form of affliction on the ground of non-absorption or the ground of absorption? What is a medium root of virtue? It is said: What is the antidote to the medium form of worldly absorption? What is a great root of virtue? It is said: What is the antidote to the small form of affliction or transcendence of the world? Moreover, it should be understood that it is also great in terms of manifestly performing virtuous deeds. It should also be understood that it is great in terms of habituation, nature, field, object, and purification. When a root of virtue arises, from how many bases does it arise? It is said: In short, from eight bases, namely the object of merit arising from generosity, arising from ethics, arising from meditation, arising from listening, arising from thinking, arising from other meditations, arising from individual realization, and the object of benefiting sentient beings. For those bases as shown, it should be observed that for this life and future lives, due to any of desire, hatred, and evil views, the mind-stream that has been previously completely destroyed, by whatever it has been completely destroyed, the antidote to that does not possess similarity to it. For this, good
