Beginning with... This is due to lack of proficiency, that is, due to the mind not being fully proficient in listening, crafts, and so on. If asked, how do forms and other objects appear to the senses? The answer is: Form appears without touching the eye. It is not a very subtle appearance. A visible appearance. An unhidden appearance. An appearance with light. Not a very distant appearance. An appearance that is in the realm of experience. Furthermore, in the eyes of some, form can appear even in the dark. Sound can be heard without touching the ear, as well as when it is obscured, unobscured, bright, dark, not very subtle, not very distant, and in the realm of experience. Odor, taste, and touch, when they come into contact with their respective senses and are in the realm of experience, become the realm of experience. In the eyes of the gods, visible forms, as well as those that are obscured, in the dark, distant, and in the realm of experience, can also appear. In the eyes of the wisdom of the noble ones, all forms become the realm of experience. On the basis of the earth, what is the detailed classification of the six realms of experience that are spoken of? Namely: place, nature, direction, time, clear, unclear, one-sided, and holding all things. Among them, the first is the form that belongs to the sentient world and the form that belongs to the vessel world. The second is from the difference of the three natures, that is, the difference of nature, the difference of function, and the difference of state. Among them, the difference of the nature of form is: blue, yellow, red, white, and so on, which are widely explained. Among them, the difference of function is: it should be regarded as including that which can be distinguished, that which cannot be distinguished, discipline, non-discipline, and neither discipline nor non-discipline. Among them, the difference of state is: the state of being pleasing, unpleasing, and neutral, and so on.
