Therefore, it is unreasonable and unacceptable to say that lights and so on, as well as the mind and mental events, perish on their own. If one thinks that they have other powers at the time of their arising, then it is unacceptable because the distinction cannot be determined. If one thinks that the two can destroy one side, then it follows that the two can either destroy both parts or cannot destroy both parts, which is unacceptable. In this way, it should be understood that what is similar to this is the momentariness of the form aggregate. For example, one should observe from the perspective of preventing the cause of self-destruction, preventing fire and so on from being the cause of destruction, preventing destruction from being the cause of destruction, and preventing both from being the cause of destruction. Furthermore, since all conditioned phenomena are the result of the mind, they should be understood as momentary, just like the mind. If asked whether the forms produced from the great elements should be said to have different characteristics or not, the answer is that they should be said to have different characteristics. Why? Because different characteristics can be observed. The different characteristics are as follows: for example, being cognized by other sense faculties. For example, the great elements are apprehended by other sense faculties, and the forms produced are also apprehended by other sense faculties. Similarly, movement and non-movement can also be observed. For example, the movement of the fragrance of flowers in sesame oil can be observed, while hardness and so on cannot move. Similarly, change and non-change can also be observed. For example, the difference in the change of color and taste in melting butter and so on can be observed, while hardness and so on cannot be observed. Therefore, it should be recognized that the forms produced from the great elements have different characteristics. If one clings to things with different characteristics as being the same, then the same conclusion would apply to the great elements. For example, the great elements also have different characteristics from each other, and in that case, the great elements would also become one. Therefore, the produced forms are...

It should be recognized that, in terms of the great elements (the four great elements), the nature is different. Like that, in accordance with that kind of nature, it should be recognized that it is the consideration of the non-mixture and mixture of the great elements. In terms of the dharmas included in the form aggregate, which are those that become senses (organs)? Which are those that become objects? Answer: It should be recognized that five are those that become senses, and six are those that become objects. Then, how do those that become senses become objects? That is like this, on the substance of the earth, even if one focuses on it, it will not be completely damaged, etc., this is extensively explained. Then, at the time of cause, how should it be said that the senses are completely damaged and not completely damaged? Answer: Through two causes: becoming inferior and completely and totally damaged. Conversely, it should be said that it is not completely damaged. Furthermore, in brief, it should be observed that the senses change through four causes: arising from external conditions, such as: fully enjoying beneficial and harmful objects, and objects and beneficial, and other harms, these will cause it to change. Arising from internal conditions, such as: each internal, the afflictions such as being bound by attachment arising from inappropriate attention, and the samadhi etc. arising from appropriate attention will cause it to change. Arising from the conditions of karma, such as: due to the influence of previous karma, ugly appearances etc. will cause it to change. The change arising from nature, such as: the difference in the nature of those senses themselves will cause it to change. If asked: How many kinds of complete damage to the mind sense should be observed? Answer: There are four kinds: caused by obscuration, such as: from any of the five obscurations obscuring the mind. Caused by distraction, such as: being possessed by spirits etc. causing the mind to be distracted. Caused by not obtaining, such as: not obtaining the special qualities of dhyana and the formless realms, and striving for that mind.
