Among the gods who experience pleasure, as well as animals and certain pretas, the co-emergent feeling that is neither suffering nor pleasure, together with the continuous stream of feelings of pleasure, suffering, or neither pleasure nor suffering of the entering aggregates of consciousness, arises and enters together. In hell beings, the feeling that is neither suffering nor pleasure is overwhelmed, and only the unmixed stream of suffering arises and enters together with it, and because it is overwhelmed, it is difficult to perceive. Just as there is suffering in hell beings, similarly, the gods of the third dhyana experience pleasure. From the fourth dhyana up to the peak of existence, there is neither suffering nor pleasure. The alaya-vijnana sometimes arises and enters together with the mental events belonging to the entering consciousness, virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. Thus, the alaya-vijnana also arises and enters together with the entering consciousnesses. It also arises and enters together with sudden feelings, as well as sudden virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral phenomena, but it cannot be said that it is in accordance with them, because the objects of entry are different. For example, eye consciousness arises together with the eye, but it is not in accordance with it. Similarly, one should view the principle of the accordance of phenomena in this way. For example, mental events, mental events themselves are not different, because their characteristics are diverse, so there is no contradiction in entering with co-emergent things. Similarly, the alaya-vijnana and the entering consciousnesses should also be understood as not contradicting entering with co-emergent things. For example, there is no contradiction in the stream of water and the waves entering with co-emergent things, and the clear surface of a mirror and the images with co-emergent things.

Just as there is no contradiction in that, for the ālaya-vijñāna, it should also be observed that the entering consciousnesses enter with co-emergent things without contradiction. For example, the eye-consciousness, with respect to one object, sometimes grasps a single type of form that is not diverse, and sometimes it grasps many diverse aspects simultaneously. Just as the eye-consciousness is with respect to form, so too are the ear-consciousness with respect to sound, the nose-consciousness with respect to smell, and the tongue-consciousness with respect to taste. For example, just as the body-consciousness, with respect to one tangible object, sometimes grasps a single type of touch that is not diverse, and sometimes it grasps many diverse aspects simultaneously, so too should it be understood that there is no contradiction in the conceptual thought of the mind-consciousness grasping one and many diverse things. That mind, which was previously shown, always arises and enters together with the ālaya-vijñāna, and until it is truly destroyed, it should be observed that it is associated with the four co-emergent afflictions that are similar in nature, namely, the co-emergent affliction of the view of the aggregates, the co-emergent affliction of pride in "I," the co-emergent affliction of attachment to self, and the co-emergent affliction of ignorance. It should also be observed that those four afflictions can enter into virtuous things and so forth without contradiction, whether in a state of equipoise or non-equipoise, and that they are obscured and not revealed. Therefore, it should be understood that the entering consciousness and co-emergent things, feeling and co-emergent things, virtue and so forth and co-emergent things, can also establish the ālaya-vijñāna as entering with co-emergent things. How is the cessation of afflictions established? In short, the ālaya-vijñāna is the root of all afflictions. Thus, it is the root of the accomplishment of the world of sentient beings, and it is able to produce the faculties together with their support and the entering consciousnesses.
