These are the various classifications of afflictions. Among them, the various classifications of places refer to the places that follow consciousness, which are these six, namely, relying on the six sense sources such as the eye, the six aggregates of consciousness arise. They are like bubbles, trees, heavy objects, and the flame of ghee. Thus, this is the various classification of the place of consciousness. Among them, the various classifications of abiding refer to the four abidings of consciousness. They are stated in the sutras that these four are the cause, reception, and object of the abiding of consciousness, namely, "the abiding of consciousness that approaches form, and that which focuses on form," and so on, extensively, "I do not say that these consciousnesses abide in the east, nor do I say that they abide between the directions, but in this very life they are without shadow, and liberated from sorrow, peaceful, cool, and pure," and so on, just as the Thus-Gone One said, those that are completely encompassed by the sutras spoken by the Thus-Gone One are the abidings of consciousness. From this point onwards, the various classifications of its nature will be explained, briefly, the abiding with cause, and the limit of the abiding with cause, and the ultimate pacification of the abiding with cause, these are also completely shown. Among them, what is the basis of affliction, and what affliction is related to it, that is called cause and reception. Both of these are also called object, because they are object and subject. Among them, it should be known that the cause of affliction is approaching things because of excessive attachment due to craving. The four knots of the cause of karma, such as greed, are what focus on things. It should be known that the dharma that possesses the predispositions of both of these is the place. Among them, for ordinary beings, the antidote of joy has not yet been obtained, and by this the consciousness is manifestly moistened, which is to take hold of the body for the next life, and to make it complete and to arise with support. Among them, if an ordinary being has not abandoned the body, it will take hold and become complete. Among them, the body

That which is completely held and completely perfected, and is certain to abide constantly in it, is called abiding. The remainder of what was previously said should be regarded as the cause of abiding. When these are combined, it is called abiding with cause. In the realm of form, it should be understood that consciousness has coming and going. The formless realm is where death and birth are exhausted, and between these two, it abides until the end of life. The meaning of the increase, development, and vastness of these two should also be understood as before. The limit of the abiding of consciousness and the cause of the limit of abiding should be regarded as only that much. For those who make other interpretations, it is only the difference in words, but there is no difference in meaning, because there is no other field of meaning besides that. Even if others are good at debating and examining, they will not understand at all because there is no other field of meaning, so they will not make any answer. Later, when one reflects properly, one will realize that one has shown that because of one's own ignorance, and thus one will realize that one's own ignorance is ignorance itself. Because the wise will abandon the craving that binds from form to formations, which is bound by attachment, but not from the latent tendencies. Those bonds that arise from the part of afflictions are also abandoned only from the entanglements. For example, those who rely on the side of householders will arise from the bonds of greed and malice, and from the cause of attachment to objects, and from the actions that arise from the cause of harming sentient beings. Those who rely on the side of renunciants will initiate (actions) from the bonds of holding vows and asceticism as supreme, and from clinging to the belief that "this is true." Their holding of vows and asceticism as supreme is like the place of greed, and clinging to the belief that "this is true" is like the place of malice. Therefore, they desire the heavenly realms, but abhor
