There are two kinds of form: those belonging to the lower and intermediate realms, namely, the desire realm and the form realm. As for the formless realms, they are called formless merely because they are established by the power of karma, and not by the power of meditative absorption. This is because, in that realm, what is manifestly apprehended through meditative absorption is that in all things, the power over the aspect of form is discerned, and that is also called the subtle form-part of meditative absorption. What, then, is the detailed classification of the aggregate of feeling? That should be viewed in five aspects: substance, characteristic, arising, proximate cause, and emergence. The substance of the aggregate of feeling is experience itself, and the dharmas that accord with the place of experience. Its own characteristic is the feeling of pleasure, the feeling of pain, and the feeling that is neither pain nor pleasure. The general characteristic of the aggregate of feeling is that the feeling of pleasure is painful due to the suffering of change, the feeling of pain is painful due to the suffering of suffering, and the feeling that is neither pain nor pleasure is considered to be painful due to the suffering of conditioning. Whatever is felt, that is suffering here. That is what it is called. Arising refers to the fact that feelings arise from the sixteen contacts, namely, the contacts arising from the aggregation of eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind; the contact arising from the aggregation of resistance; the contact arising from the aggregation of conventional terms; the contact arising from the aggregation corresponding to the feeling of pleasure; the contact arising from the aggregation corresponding to the feeling of pain; the contact arising from the aggregation corresponding to the feeling that is neither pain nor pleasure; the contact arising from the aggregation of attachment; the contact arising from the aggregation of anger; the contact arising from the aggregation of knowledge; the contact arising from the aggregation of ignorance; and the contact arising from the aggregation that is neither knowledge nor ignorance. Therefore, relying solely on the apprehension of the object, the six contacts arising from aggregation and the contact arising from the aggregation of resistance are established. Regarding the discrimination of the object,

Depending on this, the collection of conventional touch is established as one. Depending on the experience of the object itself, the three collections of touch corresponding to feelings such as pleasure are distinguished. Depending on complete affliction and complete purification themselves, one should know how to distinguish the collections of touch of attachment, anger, and ignorance, as well as the collections of touch of wisdom and neither wisdom nor non-wisdom. This is the best good of the best distinction of the best arising of feelings. In the sutra, it says that after that, the Blessed One went alone to a solitary place and remained in perfect inner concentration. He had such a thorough thought in his mind: What is feeling? What is the origin of feeling? What is the cessation of feeling? What is the path that leads to the arising of feeling? What is the path that leads to the cessation of feeling? What is the taste of feeling? What is the fault? What is the escape? He thought to himself: Feeling is these three: pleasure, pain, and neither pain nor pleasure. The arising of contact causes the arising of feeling. The cessation of contact causes the cessation of feeling. Whatever is manifest joy, manifest expression, special attachment, special attachment and abiding in feeling, this is the path that leads to the arising of feeling. Whatever is no manifest joy, no manifest expression, no special attachment, no special attachment and no abiding in feeling, this is the path that leads to the cessation of feeling. Depending on feeling, whatever is the arising of happiness and the arising of mental happiness, this is the taste of feeling. Whatever is the impermanence of feeling, suffering, and the nature of change, this is the fault of feeling. Whatever is the subduing of desire and attachment to feeling, the abandonment of desire and attachment, and the complete transcendence of desire and attachment, this is the escape from feeling. As it is said, it is explained by the words "The distinction of close examination of this is," etc. The distinction of close examination of this is the close examination of feeling for these eight kinds of feelings.
