If it is not done, what is there to say, speak with a mind free from distractions. There are three types of skillful speech: speaking at the right time, speaking from silence, either in the usual way of previous habits, or in the way of habits in this life; wanting to learn that word, grasping it with the power of individual understanding; that word, whether in secret or in front of you, is never deceiving in all circumstances. So, how should one not speak? There are five times: if when speaking, the listener does not listen and the words are blown away by the wind, and shows distraction, then the speaker should not speak. If when speaking, the listener says enough, does not listen, and refuses to listen, then the speaker should not speak. If when speaking, the listener argues with the speaker with a critical mind, and approaches with words of accusation, then the speaker should not speak. When the benefactor and the almsgiver invite with robes and alms, etc., one should not speak, but take the invitation as one's own. When an external debater approaches and speaks, the speaker should not speak until the words are finished. How much there is from my faith to the son of the family itself can be known by three causes: place, nature, and time. So, how can faith be known from place? What is the object of the place of faith, and from what object does faith arise? My faith is this much, the place of faith is this, like this, truly and completely understand. How can faith be known from nature? Small faith, medium faith, and great faith itself, truly and completely understand. How can faith be known from time? My faith arose from this time, like this, truly and completely understand. Like faith, from discipline etc., to the end of courage, it should also be understood in the same way. Faith is a limb of entering. Discipline is a limb of entering quiescence. Hearing is a limb of insight. Giving is a limb of the collection of quiescence and insight. Self

The wisdom arising from one's own mind and the subsequent instruction that accords with others, when demonstrated accordingly, is a branch that combines calm abiding and insight. By relying on it, one can attain calm abiding and insight, and also attain the fruit of a renunciate. If I understand the meaning of self, then for those who wish to understand but are doubtful, in order to dispel their doubts about how to understand, I will confidently explain. Son of good family, this itself encompasses patience and acceptance towards those dissenting opponents who wrongly argue with body and speech. Not listening arises from three causes: not knowing the qualities of the Three Jewels, practicing the views and behaviors of non-Buddhists, and not being subdued by any of the three kinds of miracles by the Buddhas or the Buddha's Shravaka disciples. Not going to the monastery again and again also has three causes: heedlessness, being dominated by laziness, having many affairs, and having excessive faith in individuals. The nature of not approaching closely also has three causes: being naturally fearless, being filled with arrogance, and relying on words and letters. The nature of not being respectful also has three causes: not being intelligent, not being compliant, and not having strong aspirations. The nature of not fully questioning also has three causes: not being skilled in Dharma, and not being skilled in both. Not listening also has three causes: engaging in conceptualization, being busy with affairs, and the mind being completely afflicted by obscurations. The nature of not accepting also has three causes: not listening, listening badly, and wisdom not growing and wisdom declining. Not contemplating the Dharma also has three causes: liking to talk, liking noise, and not possessing discriminating wisdom. Not practicing the Dharma that accords with the Dharma also has three causes: clinging to body and life, desiring gain by being dominated by them, and desiring respect. Not engaging for the benefit of others also has three causes: being naturally of low caste, having little compassion, and not having power. The white side is the opposite of this.
