Furthermore, just as a child does not fully understand the faults of a Dharma that is not pure, so too, due to the other four kinds of stinginess, one becomes stingy even with the Dharma. However, the wise fully understand its faults, and even if the other four kinds of stinginess arise, they will not accept them, let alone be stingy with the Dharma. Therefore, being free from stinginess with the Dharma, one will expound the teachings containing the Sutras, Vinaya, and Matrikas to those who desire the Dharma. From enabling them to understand and accept, to continuously propagating them, and even not concealing the teachings of the teacher. Therefore, he is separated from these five near afflictions. Thus, a bhikshu possesses the first limb of being separated from the near afflictions. Thirty-first chapter. How does a bhikshu not stray from various kinds of knowledge? There are these four kinds of knowledge. What are the four? First, with a mind-stream that is not possessed by near afflictions, beginning with the realization of the Noble Eightfold Path, this is the first knowledge. The other three knowledges begin with the obtaining and accomplishing of the Noble Eightfold Path. A bhikshu, when he is in the state of an ordinary being, thinks thus: The Noble Eightfold Path exists in the Dharma and Vinaya of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, but it does not exist in the texts of all the other non-Buddhist schools. Wherever the Noble Eightfold Path exists, there also exists the fruit of the ascetic's way, the ascetic's way, and the meaning of the ascetic's way—Nirvana. In order to obtain the fruit of the ascetic's way, the ascetic's way, and the meaning of the ascetic's way, I must cultivate and purify the Noble Eightfold Path. Therefore, knowing the Noble Eightfold Path in these ways is called the first knowledge, beginning with the realization of the Noble Eightfold Path. Relying on and abiding in that knowledge, thus...

In order to obtain and accomplish that wisdom, the other three wisdoms, namely the wisdom arising from hearing, the wisdom arising from thinking, and the wisdom arising from meditation, are made joyful, diligent, and assiduous. Therefore, one strives with the wisdom arising from hearing, and in order to purify the wisdom arising from hearing, when relying on the Dharma and Vinaya spoken by the Thus-Gone One, when the opportunity to listen to the sacred Dharma arises, one goes and listens with reverence, obtaining joy, great joy, vast virtue, and possessing manifest qualities. Among these, because of its supreme nature, it is vast. Because it is without fault, it is virtuous. Because it possesses liberation from suffering, it possesses manifest qualities. When striving with the wisdom arising from thinking, in order to purify the wisdom arising from thinking itself, wherever monks gather and abide, expounding the Sutras, Vinaya, and Matrikas, and thoroughly determining the related words of the Sutras, Vinaya, and Matrikas, one goes there and inquires of them, starting from the truths. They also explain to him the methods for understanding the nature of those truths, causing those who initially did not understand to understand, and for those who already understand, in order not to repeat, they thoroughly purify by explaining in detail with different words for one meaning, and by realizing the truth with selflessness, having understood the profound words of meaning through wisdom, they also teach the Dharma spoken by the Thus-Gone One and the words possessing emptiness. In order to purify the wisdom arising from hearing and the wisdom arising from thinking, and in order to correctly begin and completely purify the wisdom arising from meditation, one should know to meditate from abiding by observing the body in the inner body, up to extensively practicing the four mindfulnesses. Starting from obtaining and accomplishing the eightfold noble path, these three wisdoms are like that. Therefore, monks, do not be separated from wisdom! Auspicious!
