Because the appearance of a Buddha is rare, and material giving is of a nature that diminishes when given, while Dharma giving is of a nature that does not diminish when given. As for the five minds, one should control those minds and not be controlled by them. That is, the mind arising from actions of misconduct engages in misconduct; the mind arising from actions of virtue does not engage in virtue; the mind arising from actions of seeking desires, because it is not in accordance with the Dharma, rashly engages in seeking desires; the mind arising from actions of enjoying desires does not see the faults in attachment and, until it fully understands renunciation, engages in enjoyment; the mind arising from manifestation and complete solitude turns away from manifestation and complete solitude and engages in desires and tasting the flavor of meditation. The demon of afflictions surpasses the demon of spirits in five ways, because being possessed by a demon of spirits means that one person is possessed by one demon, while being possessed by a demon of afflictions means that one person is possessed by many demons of afflictions; furthermore, the demon of spirits that possesses one possessed by a demon of spirits is easily subdued by secret mantras or medicines or implements, while the demon of afflictions that possesses one possessed by a demon of afflictions is impossible to subdue; furthermore, the demon of spirits that possesses one possessed by a demon of spirits is easily recognized even by children and infants merely by the fact of possession, while the demon of afflictions that possesses one possessed by a demon of afflictions is difficult to recognize even by the wise of the world; furthermore, the demon of spirits that possesses one possessed by a demon of spirits is sudden, not innate, and it does not become that state, while the demon of afflictions that possesses one possessed by a demon of afflictions is not sudden, but innate, and it becomes that state; furthermore, the demon of spirits that possesses one possessed by a demon of spirits is different from it.

It is not common to all sentient beings, but the afflictive demon possessed by the afflictive demon is common to all sentient beings other than that. O monks, if one enters the mind with improper attention, taking oneself as the object from truth and abiding, then one should know that the deception that binds has five aspects: entering the teachings of the heretics and holding the views of the heretics; even if one does not enter, one is in accordance with the Dharma of the heretics; even if one enters, one enters the path of non-definitive liberation; even if one does not enter, it is due to two causes: becoming a Dharma-nature that is incompatible with those of this Dharma, that is, establishing the basis of true manifestation in reverse, and establishing the true manifestation in reverse. Starting from the practice of desire, the practice of merit, and the practice of mutual abiding, one should know that there are six kinds of pervasive afflictions of attachment and anger, four kinds of bases, and five kinds of antidotes. What are the six pervasive afflictions of attachment and anger? Attachment to objects, thereby relying on desires that interrupt; hatred towards enemies, thereby generating harmful thoughts towards sentient beings who harm; attachment to speech, thereby causing various harms and violations to sentient beings who are controlled by others and suffer, who are encompassed by speech; hatred towards the superior, thereby not desiring the prosperity of sentient beings who have superior happiness and superior joy, and because of one's own desire, one is unhappy and manifest with the nature of jealousy; attachment to those with qualities, and hatred towards those with faults, thereby the mind is not equal, so one gives alms to the Sangha, performs meritorious deeds, or separates from each other, or finds fault with things done and not done, and suffers, and does not abide in pleasant touch. What are the four bases? The first base is the object. The remaining bases are sentient beings. The basis of the first two is

All afflictions are one part. The basis of the remaining aspects is the two parts of all afflictions. What are the five aspects of antidotes? Impurity, love, compassion, joy, and equanimity. Another way of saying it is that there are six kinds of afflictions that follow attachment and anger, and five kinds of antidotes should be known. What are the six aspects? Objects of desire, objects of hatred, desire, hatred, attachment to the affliction of ignorance, and no complete attachment, no complete hatred, no complete ignorance, attachment to no affliction, and no complete attachment, no complete hatred, no complete ignorance, hatred towards no affliction, desire, hatred, hatred towards the affliction of ignorance. What are the five aspects of antidotes? Impurity, love, and three kinds of attention, namely, attending to afflictions as inverted, attending to no afflictions as not inverted, and with respect to both afflictions and no afflictions, the mind is not inverted, and with respect to such desire and hatred, attending to abandonment. It should be known that there are five qualities to the ordination of four kinds of people. What are the four kinds of people? The independent, those under the control of others, the fully ripened, and the not fully ripened. How should the five qualities of ordination be understood? If an independent person ordains, they will abandon kings and so on, and common enjoyments, and abide in precepts that are not common to them, this is the first quality. If a person under the control of others ordains, they will abandon the control of others and the bondage of words, and promise to have freedom in the control and bondage of words, this is the second quality. If a fully ripened person ordains, if there are no remaining habitual patterns and they attain the ultimate end of all suffering, this is the third quality.
