The order of obtaining and abandoning is as previously stated. What is obtained by? By generosity and discipline. Where is it obtained? In the heavens. What is enjoyed by? By tasting flavors. What is abandoned by? By faults. How are the desires for possessions and the desires for afflictions abandoned? It is fully shown by renunciation and the benefits of solitude, and by the dharmas that are in accordance with the aspects of purification. The four fruits of a renunciate are truly excellent, because there is no falling from them, and because they are beyond the world. Those who practice pure conduct should dispel the corruption of discipline with three assembled causes: for the sake of guarding others, for the sake of not being a vessel for the teacher, and for the sake of not slandering the sangha. Four causes give rise to joy in discipline: from the teacher, because the training has been established that completely abandons the two extremes; from oneself, because it is the nature of not being dominated by desire and so on; from friends, because it is pleasant to associate with those who are virtuous; from diligence, because one abides without laziness. The examination of discipline is fourfold: believing that it exists by associating with others, believing even in poverty by teaching, believing that there is no fault in reputation, and believing that it is not diminished by analyzing speech and related speech, because the view is not diminished. When turning away from non-virtue, it is difficult to subdue. When abiding in virtue, it quickly and completely transforms. When abiding in one-pointedness, one can go wherever one wants. Furthermore, when striving to abandon non-virtue that has arisen, and to generate virtue that has not yet arisen, and when striving not to generate non-virtue that has not yet arisen, and to make virtue that has already arisen abide, and when striving to generate the samadhi of virtue that has not yet arisen. Furthermore, for those who are diligent in discipline, and for those who are diligent in listening and thinking, and for those who are diligent in meditating. Furthermore, between renunciation and joy and constant meditation

It is for the sake of cutting off. Subduing is the opposite of this, it is for the sake of abandoning the afflictions of that place. The so-called "good" refers to showing the praise of subduing. The so-called "generating happiness" is an explanation. If you ask how the mind is focused on solitude, it refers to dwelling in the midst of hustle and bustle. If you ask how the mind is focused on manifestation, it refers to being accompanied by wandering in the city. If you ask how the mind is focused on nirvana, it refers to the inner true abiding, accompanied by the characteristics of calm abiding and so on. In another case, starting from being separated from afflictions, it is focusing on solitude. Starting from the determination to escape samsara, it is focusing on manifestation. Starting from entering the city of nirvana, it is focusing on nirvana. Because all feelings and continuations cease, it is shadowless and nirvana. Because it is forever separated from the three sufferings, it is peaceful. Because it is forever separated from the suffering of the affliction plague, it has become cool. Because it has attained the supreme state, it has become pure. There are three faults in listening to the sacred Dharma: distraction, ignorance, and disrespect. There are five types of vessels for listening: a humble mind, the characteristic of omniscience, a mind that grasps the meaning, a mind that grasps the meaning well, and a respectful mind. In the well-spoken Vinaya, the qualities of the teacher are these five, and the teacher with these qualities can overcome the Shramanas and Brahmins of other sects. What are the five? That is, conduct that does not violate the precepts, being good at formulating rules, being good at formulating trainings, being good at formulating the Dharma, and cutting off doubts about the well-formulated trainings, and teaching how to escape. This path is determined to escape by three causes, namely, because it is not familiar with the view of no-self, because it immediately becomes the antidote to afflictions, and because it is not immediately frightened by liberation. Joy is of four kinds.
