By fully meditating on the limits of the four dhyanas, one is able to enter into samadhi, and having entered into samadhi in this way, one knows everything as one has wished. The knowledge of the Tathagatas is unobstructed with respect to all knowable things. The Tathagatas also do not enter into samadhi without afflictions, for in this way the Tathagatas also have the arising of afflictions that benefit sentient beings, so the Tathagatas should not abandon this. Just as freedom from afflictions and knowing according to one's wishes must be realized by relying on the complete cultivation of the limits of the fourth dhyana, so too should the unmixed knowledge of the Tathagatas be regarded in the same way. It should also be understood that other remaining qualities such as clairvoyance can be realized by relying on all the dhyanas. The realization of truth is achieved only through the dhyanas themselves, and also through the proximity and non-interruption of the first dhyana, but not through the formless absorptions, because the path of the formless absorptions is mainly focused on calm abiding and has little insight. Since the path with little insight cannot realize the truths. Those born in the form realm or the higher formless realm also cannot initially realize the truths, because those places are difficult to become weary of. For a while, even with a small amount of weariness, the truths cannot be realized, so what need is there to mention where even a small amount of weariness is completely absent? Chapter Twenty-Nine. From here onwards, how mundane knowledge and the first, intermediate, and final stages of supramundane, uncontaminated knowledge transform will be discussed. First, the five afflicted views of ordinary beings, as previously described, and the wrong knowledge that corresponds to attachment and so on, are afflicted mundane knowledge, which is to be abandoned and fully understood. Its second

In order to increase roots of virtue, one generates that which is fully possessed by worldly correct view, faith, and so forth. This is conventional knowledge, which is virtuous and contaminated. Furthermore, relying on that correct view, one strives for mindfulness and close placement arising from wisdom born of hearing and thinking. This is also conventional knowledge, which is virtuous and contaminated. Furthermore, relying on that, one strives for mindfulness and close placement arising from the practice of application that is in accordance with the aspects of ascertainment. This is also conventional knowledge, which is virtuous and contaminated. Furthermore, relying on that, one strives for mindfulness and close placement that are in accordance with and endowed with the application of the path of seeing, which is in accordance with the aspects of ascertainment. This is also conventional knowledge, which is virtuous and contaminated. Furthermore, relying on that, one generates the supreme of worldly dharma, which is included in the uninterrupted path of the path of seeing. This is also conventional knowledge, which is virtuous and contaminated. This, for the time being, is the order of conventional knowledge on the ground of an ordinary being, which should be understood. Therein, relying on that very conventional knowledge that is included in the supreme of worldly dharma, one enters the path of seeing. And one who has truly entered the path of seeing, with the seed being completely purified, practices that very conventional knowledge that was previously fully cultivated, which is virtuous and contaminated. At the limit of manifest realization, one who has arisen from the path of seeing, from among the phenomena to be abandoned by seeing, those from which one was not previously liberated, liberation from those will also arise. When this arises, the noble person will completely sever the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing. My hell beings and the obstacles of the lower realms are exhausted, and I have entered the stream, thus one truly knows again and again. My afflictions have been abandoned in this way, thus one truly knows again and again. If one wishes, one also establishes how one should answer others, and having examined well, one also gives answers. The manifest realization of the truths is also established separately by wisdom.

O! Then, through the worldly path, one strives to abandon attachment from those things from which attachment has not been previously abandoned, and also realizes the abandonment of attachment between the realm of nothingness. Those that are abandoned by the noble person through the mundane knowledge obtained after the supramundane knowledge, and the attachment that has been abandoned by the non-noble path, should be understood as the same, only weakening the seeds of affliction, but not completely destroying them, and the reasoning is the same. That mundane knowledge, which is also obtained after supramundane knowledge, should be said to be both mundane and supramundane, but not entirely mundane. Regarding this, it should be known that there are four paths of striving: the path of application, the path of immediate consequence, the path of liberation, and the path of distinction. Among these, the first path is that which is in accordance with the abandonment of any of the nine distinctions of minor, medium, and major afflictions that are to be abandoned by meditation that belongs to all. Immediately abandoning it is the second path. Immediately after abandoning it is the third path. Abandoning it after that is the fourth path. That path of distinction also has two aspects: Sometimes, if one strives immediately to abandon another aspect, then the path of application of the other aspect is the previous path of distinction. Sometimes, if one immediately considers it sufficient and does not strive further, or dwells negligently, or distinguishes the abandonment itself with discriminating wisdom, or examines it with investigative attention, then it is only the path of distinction. Except for its unobstructed path, for all the approximations, it is only mundane knowledge, not supramundane knowledge. Why is that? Like this, the unobstructed path is the first concentration, and the concentration and samadhi above the first concentration are those that have samadhi as their precursor.
