Just as the act of paying homage to the Sangha in order of seniority, dwelling in a place, properly using things, bedding and cushions, using places and gains, and completely distributing them, this is the order of going and dwelling for those who abide in the aspect of renunciation. There is also an order of manifest accomplishment, that is, the eight stages such as infancy and youth arise in sequence. There is also an order of manifest realization, that is, the four noble truths such as suffering are realized in sequence. There is also an order of entering into absorption, that is, entering into the nine successive absorptions of gradual abiding in sequence. There is also an order of learning, that is, the arising of higher mind based on higher morality, and the arising of higher wisdom based on higher mind. What is time? Determining the end and approximation of time by means of the rising and setting of the sun, and determining the end and approximation of time by means of the arising and ceasing of phenomena, such as seasons, years, months, fortnights, days, nights, moments, instants, and short periods of time, as well as the time of past, future, and present events. What is number? The determination of the end and approximation of different substances and countable quantities is called number. That is, one number, two numbers, and many numbers thereafter, and the ultimate number, countless, beyond which all counting cannot be included, therefore it is called the ultimate number. What is a seed? A seed is not a separate entity from phenomena, but the phenomena themselves that have changed in this way, arisen in this way, and remained in this way are simply called seeds, and are also called fruits. One should not confuse fruit and seed in this case. Why is that? Because what begins from past and future phenomena is called fruit, and what begins from future phenomena

The so-called "sprout" is merely a seed. Therefore, the fruit does not originate from the seed, and the seed does not originate from the fruit. Therefore, seeds and fruits should not be regarded as a mixture. For example, the sprouts, stems, and leaves of things like rice and barley, those seeds must rely on them, and after determining that they rely on them, no other place can be found apart from them. Just as things like rice and barley become like that, appear like that, exist like that, and rely on them, they will only arise in that way. Similarly, it should also be understood in the same way. Now that it has been explained how to harm the seeds of afflictions, what harms the seeds of virtuous dharmas? Constantly engaging in afflicted dharmas that are incompatible with virtue, and showing them with a respectful attitude, is the first kind of harm. Holding onto wrong views as supreme and increasing wrong views is the second kind of harm. For example, the views of other non-Buddhists. Increasing slander through wrong views is the third kind of harm. For example, the views of those who have completely severed the roots of virtue. Completely destroying the seeds of afflicted dharmas is the fourth kind of harm, which is proclaiming faults, as mentioned before. If all these seeds are summarized together, it should be understood that there are nine kinds. Producing fruit, not producing fruit, fruit being near to existence, fruit not being near to existence, small, medium, large, damaged, and undamaged. Among them, that which produces fruit is that which is near to existence. That which is near to existence is that which produces fruit. That which does not produce fruit is that which is not near to existence. That which is not near to existence is that which does not produce fruit. That which exists naturally is small. That which becomes strong due to not fully cultivating virtuous and non-virtuous dharmas is

That is medium. That which is mostly accomplished by completion is great. Loss and non-loss should be understood as before. The abbreviated establishment of seeds should also be stated. What is the abbreviated establishment of seeds? It is the habit of manifest attachment to the nature of all phenomena that are completely conceived, which exists in the alaya-vijñana. That habit is also substantially existent and conventionally existent. Among them, conventional existence is that for those phenomena, it should not be said to be a characteristic that is different from others, such as Suchness. That should also be said to be a pervasive fault. If that habit gathers all the seeds, that also becomes a pervasive fault. In that case, what are the seeds for the arising of supramundane phenomena? It is not appropriate for those things that are the seeds of arising to be of the nature of faults. It is said that supramundane phenomena do not arise with seeds that have the cause of focusing on Suchness, and do not have seeds that accumulate habits. If they do not arise with seeds that accumulate habits, then why establish the three lineages of beings who are completely liberated, and establish the lineages of beings who are not completely liberated? Like this, because everything has the cause of focusing on Suchness. It is said that it is because of the difference between obscuration and non-obscuration. For those who have seeds of constant obscuration in order to realize the cause of focusing on Suchness, those are established as having the lineage of beings who are not completely liberated, and those who are not like that are established as having the lineage of beings who are completely liberated. For those who always have the seeds of the obscuration of knowledge, and have attachment to the body, but do not have the seeds of the obscuration of afflictions, some of those are established as having the lineage of śrāvakas, and some are established as having the lineage of pratyekabuddhas. Those who are not like that, those are the four
