In short, in that and that place of birth, all those sentient beings who are the same in realm, the same in conduct, and the same in birth place, such as the same kind, age, nature, size, etc., whatever is similar in that and that branch is the same kind, and is also called the same kind of sentient being. Among them, some sentient beings are the same only because they are the same in realm, that is, those who are born in the same realm. Some conducts are the same only because they are the same kind of conduct, that is, those who are born in the same conduct. Some birth places are the same only because they are the same, that is, those who manifestly accomplish in the same birth place. Some kinds are the same only because they are the same kind, that is, those who rely only on the same kind. Some are the same only because they are the same in color, width, sound expression, and livelihood. Some sentient beings are the same only because they are the same in qualities and faults, for example, those who kill are the same as those who kill, and so on, those who have wrong views are the same as those who have wrong views; those who have abandoned killing are the same as those who have abandoned killing, and so on, those who have right views are the same as those who have right views; those who have entered the stream up to the arhats and solitary buddhas are the same as those who have entered the stream, etc.; bodhisattvas are the same as bodhisattvas; tathagatas are the same as tathagatas. Then, what is the nature of an ordinary being? It is called the nature of an ordinary being only when the seeds of the dharmas to be abandoned by the path of seeing, which are practiced in the three realms, have not been completely destroyed. In short, there are four types: those who are included in the lineage of those who do not enter nirvana; those who are included in the lineage of shravakas; those who possess the lineage of solitary buddhas; and those who possess the lineage of tathagatas. Then, what is a collection? For the sake of producing this and that dharma, all those that have become causes and all those that have become conditions, gathering them all together is called a collection, and it is also called the cause of acting together. If we distinguish in detail, then:

There are also collections that experience various feelings, such as the causes of the six sense sources, the causes of forms and so on, and the touch arising from the causes of attention and so on, and the feelings arising from the causes of touch. There are also collections that accomplish the manifestation of existence, such as the arising of actions from the cause of ignorance, the arising of craving from the cause of feeling, the arising of grasping from the cause of craving, and all the way to the arising of old age and death from the cause of extensive birth. There are also collections where the six sense sources abide, such as the four foods and the life force. There are also collections that accomplish the places of crafts, such as the knowledge of crafts, and the tools of work and the skills of people that correspond to it. There are also collections of complete purity, such as the gathering of the twelve freedoms, including the wealth of oneself and others. There are also other collections of imputed designations, such as the absence of discord, strife, contention, and displeasure, based on the premise that the minds of sentient beings are the same. So, what are the collections of names? Starting from the establishment of the nature of phenomena and the establishment of one's own characteristics, in order to subsequently apply terminology, fully considering and grasping, merely establishing as names, these are called the collections of names. What are the collections of sentences? Starting from distinguishing those phenomena that have established their own characteristics, establishing the elaborations of qualities and faults, and defilement and purification, this is called the collection of sentences. What are the collections of letters? As the entity that the collection of names and the collection of sentences rely on, the collection of letter syllables is called the collection of letters. For the objects of knowledge and speech, what is summarized from all things is the letter, the medium is the name, and the extensive is the sentence. Relying only on letters, one can only separately recognize sounds, but one cannot separately recognize any meaning. By relying on names, one can separately recognize the nature of that and that phenomenon, and one can also separately recognize sounds, but one cannot separately recognize the detailed classification of many phenomena.
