Starting from the edge of the earth, if one wants to be mindful of this tenth (situation), then, regarding this, a Bhikshu knows truly that existence exists, knows truly that non-existence does not exist, knows truly that superiority exists, knows truly that non-superiority does not exist, and also, regarding existence, knows truly that existence exists, knows truly that non-existence does not exist, knows truly that superiority exists, knows truly that non-superiority does not exist, and also, regarding existence, knows truly that existence exists, knows truly that non-existence does not exist, knows truly that superiority exists, knows truly that non-superiority does not exist, and also, having truly known, without the perception of having attained what has not been attained, without the perception of having realized what has not been realized, without arrogance, and without being overwhelmed by arrogance, making knowledge communicative, thus a Bhikshu diligently applies himself to the discipline of the Vinaya, and should be mindful of that tenth (situation). It should be understood that there are these four obstacles to ordination, namely: obstacles of intention, obstacles of body, obstacles of karma, and obstacles of lack of autonomy. Among these, the obstacle of intention is, for example, wanting to ordain because one is oppressed by the king, and so on. Among these, the obstacle of body is, for example, being blind, deaf, pockmarked, becoming a eunuch, having scabies, leprosy, or vitiligo, or hiccups, etc., any kind of disease that harms the body, and so on. Among these, the obstacle of karma is, for example, having killed one's father, having killed one's mother, and so on. Among these, the obstacle of lack of autonomy is, for example, not being permitted by one's parents, being confiscated by the king, being robbed, being imprisoned, having disputes, and so on. Therefore, an ordained person must necessarily be taught five places of discipline, namely: being taught about transgressions, non-transgressions, heavy (offenses), light (offenses), and being taught to recite the Pratimoksha Sutra. Among these, transgressions and non-transgressions are as before. Among these, heavy transgressions change due to six differences, namely: becoming heavy due to the difference of enactment, for example, starting from the enacted basis of training. Becoming heavy due to the difference of object, for example, among similar transgressions, killing and other naturally unwholesome acts, are different from those that are

Rapao. The heaviness due to the difference in transgressions is as follows: Some repeatedly commit downfalls. The heaviness due to the difference in afflictions is as follows: Some commit downfalls because they are extremely strongly entangled by desire, hatred, and ignorance. The heaviness due to the difference in ignorance is as follows: For some, the side of virtue is small, and attachment to wisdom causes downfalls to obscure them greatly. Conversely, for others, even with similar precepts, similar objects, similar transgressions, and similar afflictions, downfalls do not obscure them. For example, a small stream of water can be blocked even by a blade of grass, but the grass cannot be swept away. A large stream of water cannot be blocked even by a load of grass and a load of wood, but it can sweep away much grass and wood. In this case, one should also view it in the same way. The heaviness due to the difference in time is as follows: Some, after committing a downfall, do not quickly restore it according to the Dharma, but rather allow it to remain for some time before restoring it. Light downfalls should be understood as the opposite of these. A Vinaya holder, having examined a downfall that has occurred in five ways, should then assign the downfall: one, completely afflicted; two, not particularly practiced; three, based on the root precept; four, indicating whether or not a transgression has occurred; and five, not universally practiced. Among these, a downfall that is completely afflicted is as follows: related to a naturally unwholesome act. Among these, a downfall that has not been particularly practiced should be pointed out. For a downfall that has occurred, all appropriate acts of restoring the downfall should be fully shown. Among these, based on which person, place, and time did the Bhagavan establish the precept and the basis of training associated with transgression? If another person commits the same transgression in another place and time, then the Bhagavan, having seen the transgression, should fully show the act of restoring the downfall in the same way as that precept. If one does not rely on that transgression, then the downfall should not be assigned, nor should the act of restoration be performed.
