It should be distinguished. At any time, when all arising karma and afflictions, whose nature is the truth of arising from causes, why did the Bhagavan establish only craving? Because craving causes clinging, causes karma, and pervades things, and when it arises, it also increases the fifteen kinds of harm. Among them, how is it that it is a producer, and has joyful attachment, and is delighted in this and that, thus it is called pervading things. Among them, there are two kinds of craving for arising: focusing on arising and becoming the cause of arising. The craving with joyful attachment is the craving for fully enjoying the obtained desirable objects, or for not separating and staying for a long time. Being delighted in this and that is meeting with the desired objects that have not been obtained, or craving to return and arise. Are all these cravings producers, and have joyful attachment, and are delighted in this and that? There are four possibilities: there are those that are craving, but are not producers, nor have joyful attachment, nor are delighted in this and that, which is desiring and longing for the liberation of the upper realms. There are those that are producers, and have joyful attachment, and are delighted in this and that, but are not craving, which are the feelings, perceptions, thoughts, and ignorance that are associated with the craving that is a producer, and has joyful attachment, and is delighted in this and that, and with other afflictions. Craving itself is of three kinds, this is the third possibility. Apart from these kinds, it should be regarded as the fourth possibility.

It is the craving that is associated with afflictions and displeasure, as well as the craving for separation and the craving for not encountering. Furthermore, what is the craving of the one who comes into being again? It is also delighting in that and that appearing, and what is delighting in that and that appearing, is that also the one who comes into being again? The answer is, temporarily, what is delighting in that and that appearing is the one who comes into being again, but there are also those who are the one who comes into being again but do not delight in that and that appearing, that is, what is focused on coming into being again, and the craving that is associated with the desire for joy. What is the craving that is associated with the desire for joy? That is also delighting in that and that appearing, and what is delighting in that and that appearing, is that also associated with the desire for joy? The answer is four possibilities: To crave to fully enjoy the desirable objects that have been obtained is the first possibility. To crave for those same desirable objects that are not certain to be obtained in the future is the second possibility. To crave for those same objects that are certain to be obtained is the third possibility. What is different from those aspects should be regarded as the fourth possibility. Is it also the case that whoever has feeling associated with desire also has feeling associated with form? And is it also the case that whoever has feeling associated with form also has feeling associated with desire? The answer is four possibilities: There are those who have feeling associated with desire but do not have feeling associated with form, that is, those who are born and arise in the desire realm, whose antidote has not obtained the practice in form. There are those who have feeling associated with form but do not have feeling associated with desire, that is, those who are born and arise in the form realm. There are those who have both feeling associated with desire and feeling associated with form, that is, those who are born and arise in the desire realm, whose antidote has obtained the practice in form. There are also those who do not have either, that is, those who are born in the formless realm, and the noble ones who have done what is to be done, abiding on the path that transcends the world, born and arisen in the desire realm and the form realm, and those who have entered into cessation. The feeling associated with desire and the feeling associated with form are like the four possibilities, having desire, formless.
