And, those within, those without, those encompassed by name and form, those that are grasped, those that have the great elements as their cause, those that do not have the great elements as their cause, those that have existence, those that do not have existence, those that are superior, those that are unsurpassed, those to be cultivated, those that are past, those that are future, those that are presently arising, those that possess desire, those that possess form, those that possess formlessness, those that are virtuous, those that are non-virtuous, those that are undeclared, those who are learning, those who are not learning, those who are neither learning nor not learning, those to be abandoned by seeing, those to be abandoned by cultivation, those that are not to be abandoned. The distinctions of the profound and difficult-to-see dharmas, as they have been shown, are those. By thinking well, with mindfulness and diligent effort, one should thus engage in the yoga of properly distinguishing the dharmas. This is the ascertainment of the ground arising from thought. The remaining part of the ascertainment treatise is not apparent. Twenty-fifth fascicle. The ascertainment of the ground arising from cultivation, in brief, it should be known that there are sixteen types of cultivation, namely: cultivation of attention associated with the Hearer Vehicle, cultivation of attention associated with the Great Vehicle, cultivation of images, cultivation of the limits of things, necessary perfect accomplishment cultivation, attainment cultivation, reliance cultivation, abandonment cultivation, antidote cultivation, temporary cultivation, universally moving cultivation, cultivation with movement, cultivation with manifest activity, accomplishment cultivation, cultivation of dharmas not arising from cultivation, and cultivation of dharmas arising from cultivation. Among these, what is the cultivation of attention associated with the Hearer Vehicle? It is said: For example, here there is a Hearer, abiding in the nature of the Hearer's dharma, having entered into the true and faultless, or not having entered into the true and faultless, not regarding the benefit of sentient beings.

What is the meditation of accomplishing all needs? Answer: It is the meditation of accomplishing all that is needed. What is the meditation of attainment? Answer: For example, here, someone relies on the first dhyana, or meditates on the idea of impermanence, or even meditates on the idea of death. Those who have not manifested other thoughts of their own level or lower levels, or to generate worldly or transcendental qualities, meditate in order to make them more clear and brighter, and also gain mastery over them, this is the meditation of attainment. What is the meditation of cultivation? Answer: It is said that, for example, here, someone contemplates on virtuous thoughts such as impermanence, or any virtuous dharma, and cultivates by meditating on it, this is the meditation of cultivation. What is the meditation of abandonment? Answer: It is said that, for example, here, someone contemplates the image of the object of samadhi, and manifests, eliminates, and abandons the characteristics of nature, in the manner of a dog giving birth to a dog. Just as, for example, a very small dog of someone can give birth to a very large dog, similarly, a collection of extremely subdued aggregates can manifest, eliminate, and abandon the aggregates of bad destinies, this is the meditation of abandonment. What is the meditation of antidote? Answer: It is said that any meditation that contemplates refuting antidotes, abandoning antidotes, upholding antidotes, or delaying antidotes, is the meditation of antidote. Among them, refuting antidotes, except for the immeasurable ones, are all the virtuous paths of the world, and other contemplations with transformations possessed by yogis. Among them, abandoning antidotes is the contemplation that focuses on suchness. Among them, upholding antidotes is the worldly and transcendental path obtained after that, and the path of liberation. Among them, delaying antidotes is the antidote to the afflictions that have been abandoned.
