Suffering and evil deeds, and complete torment, if one is very familiar with the object, by correctly approaching it, it will become pleasant and beneficial, therefore, whatever harms and benefits, that is called change. Thus, it is both internal and form, and the place where mind and mental factors depend, any such change, that is called 'that which is grasped'. Conversely, it should be understood that these are the ungrasped dharmas. Among them, the four great elements and the derived dharmas should be said to be only form dharmas. Among them, just as the four great elements arise from their own seeds, so too, the derived form arises from its own seed, then, why is the derived form called 'derived from the four great elements'? The seeds of the four great elements, those that possess form sense organs and mind, those are the ones that possess the seeds of the derived, the seeds of form, when those can make the fruit manifest and accomplished, then, the seeds of the derived form that are associated with those, will also surely make their own fruit manifest and accomplished, therefore, the derived form is also called 'derived from the four great elements'. Among them, the seeds of the four great elements, those that possess form sense organs, that is with direction, and those that do not possess form sense organs, that is without direction, it should be said thus. In short, those four great elements are of two kinds, namely, those that are merely included by the element and those that perform their own actions. Among them, those that have become seeds are those that are merely included by the element. Those that are formed from their own seeds are those that perform their own actions. Those also exist with the derived form in an inseparable entity, because they are born from a cause similar to it. Everywhere, everything is mixed and like a lump of the same taste, not like a pile of flour and grains and jewels. In the desire realm, whatever is solid that is gathered into one, that is the earth element, and form and smell and...

It is produced from the realm of emptiness. In the realm of form, only the realm of form can function. The remaining realms of water, fire, wind, and sound, which are related to those that have become seeds, depend on various conditions. Therefore, for things that gather names such as water, fire, and wind, one should observe them in their respective order. For the internal aggregates of form, by thoroughly distinguishing hair, body hair, etc., it appears that they are related to the functions of all the realms such as earth, as stated in the sutras. For the external, one should observe the aggregates of earth and other elements in their respective ways. These also meet with various conditions and become the cause of producing corresponding results. For example, fire arises from well-rubbed dry wood, and pigments, madder, iron, silver, and the like are melted. Whatever belongs to the sense-sphere of knowables, such as smoothness and roughness, and all that is shown in the five places associated with the five aggregates of consciousness, should be understood as merely distinctions of the great elements. Those that have become like that, similar to that, the four great elements in that state, will change in various ways. Those that are referred to as smoothness and the like, should be understood as imputed existences. Therefore, the Blessed One said that the external sense-sphere of knowables is the four great elements, and that the four great elements are produced as the cause. What kind of form is referred to as "invisible and unimpeded form"? Here, the great elements produce two kinds of form as the cause, namely, the specificity of one's own kind and the specificity of another kind. Among them, the form produced as the cause of the specificity of one's own kind is the smoothness and roughness of the great elements. For example, for those great elements that widely appear, are called smoothness and roughness, and are different from each other, they are composed of that cause and that condition.

The form that has color as its cause is the five internal sense bases such as the eye and ear, the four external sense bases excluding the cognitive sense base, and the forms in the realm of the dharma sense base. Regarding this, the Blessed One, considering the form that has its own kind as a special cause, declared that the four great elements are the cause. What is said to be invisible and unobstructed form, it should be said that it depends on which great elements? If a person with a balanced mind generates an image when focusing on a form that operates in the desire realm, then it should be said that it depends on the great elements that operate in the desire realm. If an image arises when focusing on a form that operates in the form realm, then it should be said that it depends on the great elements that operate only in the form realm. The remaining part of the treatise on the determination of the phenomena caused by the great elements is not found. The phenomena of existence refer to all worldly phenomena. If the virtuous worldly phenomena of an Arhat are considered to belong to existence because they are worldly, then why are they called undefiled? They are called belonging to existence because they belong to the three realms of existence, but they are called undefiled because they are completely liberated from the latent tendencies of defilements. Regarding this, what are the phenomena with defilements that the Blessed One spoke of? That is, the worldly mind, phenomena, and consciousness. What is the intention behind this? The Blessed One spoke with the intention of referring to the worldly mind, phenomena, and consciousness that should be abandoned but have not been abandoned. Regarding this, the many existences that the Blessed One spoke of, namely the desire existence, the form existence, and the formless existence, their establishment is as follows: As the Buddha's teachings are taught in the place of knowledge in the place arising from hearing. Regarding this, the supreme dharma is Nirvana.
