If one believes that composing treatises and speaking well of meanings will generate faith, and due to the power of faith, if things like gain and respect arise, how wonderful! One should not compose treatises with such a mind. Rather, with a mind free from defilement, one should compose treatises for the sake of increasing the roots of virtue for oneself and others. Among these, the explanation of the meaning of the sutras spoken by the Tathagata, as it is, is called the Ornament of the Sutras. For example, an unopened lotus does not delight as much as when it is opened; for example, unrefined gold does not delight as much as when it is refined; for example, un tasted food does not delight as much as when it is tasted; for example, an unread message of joy does not delight as much as when it is read; for example, an unobtained accumulation of enjoyment does not delight as much as when it is obtained and possessed. Similarly, the meaning of the sutras spoken by the Tathagata, when not differentiated, does not delight as much as when it is differentiated. Therefore, it is called the Ornament of the Sutras. Realization is of seven kinds: realization of letters, realization of the meaning of letters, realization of grasping, realization of the meaning of grasping, realization of bondage, realization of liberation, and realization of the nature of reality. Among these, realization of letters comes from investigation. Realization of the meaning of letters comes from non-investigation. Among these, realization of grasping is the realization of the truth of the consciousness with the senses, whether established or not established. Just as realization of grasping is, so too is realization of the meaning of grasping. Among these, realization of bondage is the realization of the bondage of signs or the bondage of bad migrations. Realization of liberation should be understood as the opposite of that. Among these, realization of the nature of reality is because of the abiding of the Dharma, thus this nature of reality is only abiding, not from power or self-nature.

It is not understood from the distinctions of caste and person, etc. Perfect hearing should be known as ten types, namely: what is said by the one who is good at teaching; saying the words and letters clearly; saying as much as there is; saying the meaning as it exists; saying the combination of excellent methods; saying that one will definitely be liberated from all suffering. These five, and another five: listening without the intention of finding fault; listening with the intention of nirvana; listening well; listening very well; relying on the collection of names, sentences, and letters, understanding the meaning well. This is the determination of the land arising from hearing, and there is no remaining discussion of the determination. The determination of the land arising from thought: Thought is generally divided into four types, namely: thinking about things; thinking about existence and non-existence; thinking about cause and effect; thinking about vehicles. Among them, thinking about things is like this, starting from the six things, to the thing of aggregates, to the thing of faculties. Among them, thinking about existence and non-existence is like this, as it is said in the nature of the land. Among them, thinking about cause and effect is like this, as it is said in the land with discrimination and investigation. Among them, thinking about vehicles is like this, namely the lands of hearers, solitary buddhas, and bodhisattvas. Again, there are two types of thought, namely: wrong thinking and correct thinking. Among them, wrong thinking is like this, as in the nature of the land, it is said in the black category, such as "Here, some people think about the inconceivable, etc., without completely abandoning them," this is what is said. The opposite of this should be known as correct thinking. Just like wrong thinking and correct thinking, corresponding to what is not Dharma, corresponding to Dharma; corresponding to what is not tamed, corresponding to what is tamed; corresponding to what is not noble, corresponding to what is noble; corresponding to what is not virtuous, corresponding to what is virtuous; should not be relied upon, should be relied upon; not good, good; black, white; corresponding to what is meaningless, corresponding to what is meaningful; bad.
