Explaining the truth, explaining the secret, explaining the distinctions, explaining the objects to be answered, and explaining the objects not to be answered. Among these, explaining objects refers to explaining forms and so on, and the various dharmas such as the eye, separately. Among these, explaining the categories of names is as follows: For example, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, extensively explain the categories of names with names such as aggregates, elements, sense-fields, dependent origination, places and non-places, faculties, the names of truths, and the names of mindfulness and so on, and names such as form and formless, visible and invisible, with contact and without contact, and so on, with immeasurable categories of names. Among these, explaining the examination of one's own doctrine refers to relying on the collection of explanations, and explaining and correctly explaining the Sutra section, the section of verses, the section of prophecies, and so on. Among these, explaining the examination of others' doctrines refers to relying on the seven types of reasoning to defeat the opponents and to establish one's own doctrine. The seven types of reasoning are as follows: speech, the promise of speech, the basis of speech, the adornment of speech, cutting off by interrupting speech, arising from speech, and the dharmas needed for cherishing speech. Among these, explaining the meaning to be led refers to whatever the Bhagavat has explained in the Sutra section, the section of verses, the section of prophecies, and so on, where the meaning has not been distinguished and needs to be led. Among these, explaining the definitive meaning refers to understanding it as the opposite of that. Among these, explaining the conventional truth refers to whatever is expressed by the path of words, all of that is the conventional truth. The domain of names, concepts, and expressions, such as signs, names, and discriminations, whatever they may be, that is also the conventional truth. Among these, explaining the ultimate truth refers to explaining the four noble truths, as well as suchness, the ultimate limit, and the realm of dharma. Among these, explaining the secret is like this: mostly it is

So, what is the explanation of the collection of what is heard? The explanation of the divisions within it is as follows: For the most part, it is the explanation of the collection of the Great Vehicle. The explanation of the objects to be answered within it is as follows: The explanation of the four Dharma Sutras, from "All conditioned phenomena are impermanent" to "Nirvana is peace," and those similar to them, are what is explained. The explanation of the objects not to be answered within it is as follows: If asked, "Is the world permanent or impermanent?" one says, "I will not answer," and does not answer. Similarly, if asked up to "After the Tathagata dies, is he neither existent nor nonexistent?" one says, "I will not answer," and does not answer, that is what is explained. The explanation of the objects not to be answered is to be understood by four reasons: There is also not answering because of non-existence, for example, asking, "Is the self other than the aggregates, or not other? Is it permanent or impermanent?" and so on. There is also not answering because of lack of meaning, for example, as it says in the Sutra of the Simile of the Shapa Tree Leaves: "Although I have realized so many dharmas, I have not taught them. Why? Because those dharmas are not meaningful." There is also not answering because of profundity, for example, if asked, "Is there a self?" If one were to grasp the aggregates as the self, or if one were to grasp that there is something different from the aggregates, that would not be permissible, so one does not answer. If one asks, "Is there no self?" If one were to grasp that one is denigrating the designation of a person, that would not be permissible, so one does not answer. Similarly, if one asks, "After the Tathagata dies, does he exist?" and so on, up to "Is he neither existent nor nonexistent?" one does not answer because of profundity. There is also not answering when distinguishing the characteristics of suchness, for example, if one asks, "Is the suchness of any dharma other than those dharmas, or not other?" one does not answer, because that characteristic is neither other nor not other, but abides in that way. Furthermore, not answering
