If it does not abide, then for a while, the eye consciousness that arises from it, and the mind consciousness that arises from it, will not arise. Thus, because there is no attention, the mind does not arise. How is it that the mind does not arise from not having obtained it? For example, here some people pay gross attention to the desire realm, and pay peaceful attention to the first dhyana. Because they do not fully cultivate, do not meditate, and do not practice the path many times in order to realize the first dhyana, and because they do not make it familiar, they do not attain the first dhyana. Because they have not attained it, the mind associated with the first dhyana does not arise, just like that. And like this, here some people pay gross attention to the first dhyana, the second dhyana, the third dhyana, the fourth dhyana, the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness, and the sphere of nothingness, and from the second dhyana onwards, up to the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, they also apply peaceful attention in the same way. For example, here some people pay attention to all aggregates of decay as suffering, and pay peaceful attention to the cessation of the aggregates of decay, nirvana. In order to abandon all aggregates of decay and realize nirvana, they do not fully cultivate, do not meditate, and do not practice the path many times, and because they do not make it very familiar, they do not fully realize all of nirvana. Because they have not realized it, the mind does not arise from complete liberation from all bonds, fetters, latent tendencies, near afflictions, and pervasive entanglements. Thus, because it has not been obtained, the mind does not arise. How is it that the mind does not arise from incompatibility? For example, here some people are touched by a touch that will experience pleasure, and when a pleasant feeling arises, the manifest mind that is associated with the pleasant feeling, the mind that is associated with the feeling of pain and neither pain nor pleasure, does not arise because it is incompatible. Similarly, if touched by a touch that will experience pain, and touched by a touch that will experience neither pain nor pleasure, then pain and pain

Suffering from experiencing feelings that are neither painful nor pleasant, and when a mind that corresponds to feelings that are neither painful nor pleasant manifests, any mind that corresponds to feelings of pleasure and pain does not arise because it is incompatible. Thus, here, some are completely bound by the entanglement of desire, and when a mind that corresponds to the entanglement of desire manifests, any mind that corresponds to the entanglement of malice does not arise because it is incompatible. Being completely bound by the entanglement of hatred, when a mind that corresponds to the entanglement of hatred manifests, any mind that corresponds to the entanglement of desire does not arise because it is incompatible. Therefore, mind does not arise from incompatibility. How does mind not arise from abandonment? Thus, here, some, having thoroughly cultivated the noble eightfold path, experience the complete exhaustion of desire, and the complete exhaustion of hatred and delusion, for those who have abandoned and completely understood the mind with desire, it does not arise from abandonment. For those who have abandoned and completely understood that which is with hatred, with delusion, and defiled by any of the secondary defilements arising from the mind, it does not arise from abandonment. Therefore, mind does not arise from abandonment. How does mind not arise from cessation? Thus, here, some are born among the gods of the non-perceptual beings, or enter into non-perceptual concentration, or enter into cessation concentration, for such beings, at that time, mind does not arise from cessation. Thus, here, some are completely extinguished in the realm of nirvana without remainder, for such beings, mind does not arise from complete cessation. Therefore, mind does not arise from cessation. How does mind not arise from arising? All arising minds, because they are of the nature of disintegration immediately after the moment of arising, therefore, at the present
