It should be understood that the wisdom of attaining immeasurable detachment, and the wisdom of attaining clear knowledge of death, transmigration, and birth, are completely pure. If one abides in the path of easily attaining the wisdom of seeing the truth, it is a dharma of complete degeneration due to dull faculties. Therefore, one should maintain mindfulness and awareness of the feelings, thoughts, and discriminations that occur in the desire realm. All meditations are distinguished by detachment. Detachment should be understood in six ways: namely, detachment by nature, detachment by harm, detachment by showing, detachment by true excellence, detachment by universal ignorance, and detachment by antidote. Among these, detachment by nature refers to: the fact that things are by nature impure and not suitable for enjoyment, whatever is incompatible with this; similarly, for painful feelings, whatever is incompatible; similarly, from the first dhyana to the second dhyana and so on, which are detached from desire, whatever is incompatible with investigation and analysis. Among these, detachment by harm refers to: the incompatibility of complete separation from suffering when two engage in sexual acts, teaching the dharma of lust; other similar things should also be observed. Among these, detachment by showing refers to: the incompatibility with well-eaten, well-drunk, and well-satisfied food and drink; other similar things should also be observed. Among these, detachment by true excellence refers to: the incompatibility with inferiority when obtaining extremely abundant and supremely excellent enjoyment and fulfillment; other similar things should also be observed. Among these, detachment by universal ignorance refers to: the incompatibility with nirvana for those who do not know the benefits of nirvana; other similar things should also be observed. Among these, detachment by antidote refers to:

For example, depending on the antidote of refutation, the antidote of abandonment, the antidote of pervasive clinging, or the antidote of procrastination, whatever eliminates afflictions through worldly or transcendental paths is (meditation). Why is it called abiding in meditation? The answer is: because the mind is closely directed towards the inner object, it does not wander outwards. Why is meditation called samadhi? The answer is: because the mind abides in the image object that corresponds to the object of knowledge. Why is meditation called tranquility? The answer is: because it abides in order to pacify afflictions. Why is meditation called one-pointedness? The answer is: there are two types: the object of investigation with examination before entering into equipoise and the object of investigation with examination after entering into equipoise. Among them, the object of investigation with examination before entering into equipoise is a single object. The other is not, therefore, the mind focused on it is called one-pointedness. Furthermore, complete degeneration from detachment from desire can be understood in ten ways. For example, imbalance of the body can also lead to complete degeneration. For example, here, some people are touched by severe harm. For example, like the bark of a tree (saying): I did not see my samadhi, and I thought: have I completely degenerated from that samadhi or have I not become one? Some people, because they have not previously become accustomed to samadhi, naturally have many abodes. Because of these many abodes, they become prone to degeneration. The main object can also lead to complete degeneration. For example, here, some people have obtained a vast object that has become manifest. For example, like non-Buddhist hermits who have attained the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, it is said that they completely degenerated because they relied on the touch of a young, beautiful woman that aroused desire. Respect can also lead to complete degeneration, for example, here, some people completely degenerate when they receive gains and respect from others, like Devadatta. Contempt
