One should regard whether the conduct is in accordance with the Dharma. For those who enjoy desires, there are three things that are correct, and these three distinguish those who enjoy desires. What are the three? They are: being good at seeking enjoyment, being good at enjoying what is sought, and having the autonomy to control enjoyment. Similarly, the limbs of meditators should also be understood to be established based on three good deeds, and this should be done as appropriate. Another way of saying it is that the limbs of meditators are considered to be the antidote to intense asceticism. These antidotes are also of three types: the antidote to no antidote, the antidote that harms body and mind, and the antidote to the mind scattering outwards without being pacified. Why is it said in the first dhyana that one is separated from desires, and also that one is separated from sinful and unwholesome dharmas? Answer: In order to fully show the nature of desires themselves, and to fully show the nature of faults. Among them, the nature of faults is: desires incite evil deeds and cause one to fall, therefore they are sinful. It is contrary to the arising of virtue, therefore it is unwholesome. Another way of saying it is, in order to fully show the abandonment of afflictive pervasive afflictions, and in order to fully show the abandonment of pervasive afflictions of previously accumulated karma. Another way of saying it is, in order to fully show that householders abandon desires through enjoying things, and in order to fully show that renunciants abandon them through conceptual thoughts. Another way of saying it is, in order to fully show the abandonment of conceptual thoughts of desires, and in order to fully show the abandonment of conceptual thoughts of harmful intent and malice. Another way of saying it is, in order to fully show the signs obtained by non-Buddhist sages, and in order to fully show the abandonment of the curses of those who have fallen away. Why is there suffering in the first dhyana...

If the power of suffering is not abandoned, the answer is: Because in that, one has not separated from the unfavorable state that is in accordance with that side. If the power of suffering were abandoned in that, the distinction between the second dhyana and abiding would not become an object of focus, therefore, it should be understood that it is only not abandoned. When do the samadhis such as investigation and analysis in the first dhyana and so on provide benefit? The dhyanas enter to benefit their own ground and to become completely pure. Why did the Bhagavan teach it as the name of agitation? Answer: It is taught in relation to another ground, but not in relation to one's own ground. Why are the limbs arranged from above to above, starting from the intermediate realm of desire in the first dhyana and so on? Answer: In summary, it is due to three causes: the antidote to the unfavorable side, the benefit of realization, and because of realization. Those three causes should also be applied as appropriate to those four dhyanas in which the five limbs are fully grasped. What is the difference between the first dhyana and the second dhyana? Answer: There is a difference in the complete perfection of samadhi. What is the difference between the second dhyana and the third dhyana? Answer: There is a difference in the complete perfection of providing benefit. What is the difference between the third dhyana and the fourth dhyana? Answer: There is a difference in the complete perfection of the complete purification of samadhi. Twentieth fascicle. There are four types of samadhi meditation: to obtain a happy abode in this life, to obtain wisdom and vision, to obtain the ultimate distinction of wisdom, and to obtain the exhaustion of defilements. It should be understood that the four samadhi meditations are established based on four types of individuals. What are the four types of individuals? They are: those who have attained the path of seeing the truth, who have quick and difficult direct knowledge; ordinary beings who are free from desire and have not attained the path, who have attained the immeasurable focused on sentient beings; those who have attained the path of seeing the truth, who have slow and easy direct knowledge; and those who have attained the path of seeing the truth, who have quick and easy direct knowledge. Among them, ordinary beings desire
