There are also those who possess the vows of discipline with hearing. There are also those who possess the vows of discipline of a Bodhisattva. Among them, the first is inferior, the second is intermediate, and the third is superior. Regarding meditation, like this, from the yoga of attention, three types of individuals are established: There are individuals who attain attention that enters intensely; there are those who enter with effort, whether interrupted or uninterrupted; and there are those who attain attention that enters naturally. Among them, the first is inferior, the second is intermediate, and the third is superior. Furthermore, from attaining meditation, there are three types of individuals: There are individuals who attain the quiescence of the inner mind but do not attain the higher insight that observes phenomena; there are those who attain the higher insight that observes phenomena but do not attain the quiescence of the inner mind; and there are those who attain both. Among them, the first is inferior, the second is intermediate, and the third is superior. Furthermore, there are three types of individuals: There are those who attain meditative stabilization with investigation and analysis; there are those who attain meditative stabilization with only analysis and no investigation; and there are those who attain meditative stabilization with neither investigation nor analysis. Among them, the first is inferior, the second is intermediate, and the third is superior. Regarding only meditation, from abiding, three types of individuals are established: There are individuals who abide in contaminated meditative concentration; there are those who abide in pure worldly meditative concentration; and there are those who abide in uncontaminated meditative concentration. Among them, the first is an inferior person, the second is an intermediate person, and the third is a superior person. The ten classes of sentient beings are: animals, women, those who enjoy desires, those who pursue activities, renunciants, those who live by hearing, those who realize, those who speculate, those who practice intense austerities, and...

Those who give alms. Their desires, sufferings, and satisfactory dharmas are life, complexion, enjoyment, friendship, discipline, learning, celibacy, wisdom, dharma, and the heavenly realm, these ten. The faults of the near afflictions of listening to the true dharma are these six: the fault of pride, the fault of lack of desire, the fault of disbelief, the fault of harm to body and mind, the fault of distraction, and the fault of delusion. Because of these, they are not respectful and do not listen to the dharma. They do not regard it as a guru and do not listen to the dharma. As it is extensively stated in the sutras. Among them, there are two kinds of faults of near affliction distraction: distraction while speaking and distraction after speaking. The fault of delusion is whatever is reversed. The arising of all afflictions of karma has three aspects: arising by correspondence, arising by production, and arising by ownership. Because it is brought from other afflictions and arises. The undesirable are these six: enemies, diseases, unpleasant places, sufferings such as birth, bitter medicine, and unfamiliar virtues. Among these, the basis is what should be completely abandoned. Two are to be relied upon. There are five kinds of enjoyment of desire: enjoyment of individual experience, enjoyment of joy when completely mixed, enjoyment of discrimination, enjoyment obtained from others, and enjoyment not well grasped. There are eight kinds of faults of desire: the taste is small, the suffering is great, the faults are many, it is the cause of suffering caused by the harm of others, it is the cause of enjoyment by those who are all afflicted, it is the cause of suffering in the lower realms, it is the cause of suffering of discrimination and universal disturbance, it is the cause of complete exhaustion of enjoyment, it is the cause of complete exhaustion of dwelling, it is between virtues...

It is the cause of cutting off. There are six kinds of transformations from the basis of desire: transformation by harm from others, transformation by imbalance of elements, transformation by suffering of sentient beings, transformation of body, transformation of mind, and transformation by impermanence itself. For desires, one should know the name of the forest by five kinds of conformity: conformity by multiplicity, conformity by diversity, conformity by sentient beings living nearby, conformity by place, and conformity by increase and decrease. The determination of the nature of the three grounds, including those with investigation and analysis, is complete. Among them, in some places, there is no treatise on the determination of nature. Determining the nature from the perspective of the ground of meditative stabilization: those whose minds are afflicted by various forms of near afflictions do not have the opportunity to touch perfect goodness, that is, single-pointedness of mind. What are the various forms of near afflictions? They are: having deceit, having deception, having hypocrisy, having pretense, being shameless, being without embarrassment, being without faith, being lazy, being forgetful, being un-concentrated, having corrupt wisdom, being lax, being busy, going first to what should be taken, abandoning diligence in secluded places, being mostly disrespectful to the trainings, not observing the conduct of a renunciate, and renouncing with the thought of livelihood rather than with the thought of nirvana, and so on. How is one with deceit? That is, even though one has faults, one does not speak the truth as it is in front of the teacher or in front of the wise who practice the same conduct. How is one with deception? That is, in any way, even though one does not have qualities, one shows one's untrue qualities in order to make the wise who practice the same conduct believe and ascertain. How is one with hypocrisy? That is, seeing that the superior discipline is lost from discipline, or that conduct is lost from conduct.
