At that time, sentient beings would not count the eight abodes among themselves, nor would they count the Dharma, nor fame, nor teachings, nor compassion, nor loving-kindness, nor possessing qualities, nor benefiting others, nor all joys, so it was said. The sixteenth chapter. Regarding the afflictions arising from birth, from "Conditioned by ignorance are the formations" to "Conditioned by birth is aging and death," how should one view the detailed classifications of the limbs such as ignorance? Answer: In brief, there are five aspects: sign, nature, activity, dharma, and cause and effect. What are the signs of ignorance? Answer: The signs of ignorance are also attachment, also anger, also pride, also self-grasping and grasping at self, also shamelessness and lack of embarrassment, also recklessness, also inherent timidity and dullness, also excessive sleep, also discouragement, also constantly engaging in sinful deeds, these are also signs. What is the nature of ignorance? Answer: The nature of the essence has already been explained. Now, from the detailed classification, the nature will be further explained: ignorance is also latent, also awakened, also associated with afflictions, also purely unmixed, also suppressed by the mind, also initiating all actions, also non-afflictive, also without shame, also the teachings, that is, of those beings who do not transcend complete nirvana. What is the activity of ignorance? Answer: Ignorance also completely confuses one about hidden meanings. Ignorance also completely confuses one about the manifest, the bad, the intermediate, the excellent, the beneficial, the non-beneficial, the meaning of that alone, the meaning of friendship, and also cause and effect. The complete confusion of sentient beings is these ten, and these complete confusions of sentient beings will encompass all the complete confusions of sentient beings, that is, complete confusion due to incompleteness, complete confusion due to distraction, and complete confusion due to extreme distraction.

Naturally pervasive ignorance, manifest attachment pervasive ignorance, confusion pervasive ignorance, pervasive ignorance steadfast, extremely pervasive ignorance, non-realization pervasive ignorance, direct perception pervasive ignorance. Among these, incomplete pervasive ignorance is: For example, here someone's eyes are incomplete or ears are incomplete, therefore the forms that can be perceived by the eyes, or the sounds that can be perceived by the ears, are not experienced in all of everything, hence pervasive ignorance. Among these, distraction pervasive ignorance is: For example, here someone is harmed, or suffering, or severely ill, or experiencing pain, or mad and mentally disturbed, therefore he is pervasively ignorant of the good and bad he has done. Among these, mental distraction pervasive ignorance is: For example, here someone's mind is attached to others, therefore he is pervasively ignorant of the good and bad that others have done. Among these, natural pervasive ignorance is: For example, here someone in beginningless samsara, merely by nature, is pervasively ignorant of suffering, as well as origin, as well as cessation, as well as path, as well as the selflessness of the person, as well as the selflessness of phenomena. Among these, manifest attachment pervasive ignorance is: For example, here someone becomes an outsider, therefore he is pervasively ignorant of the view of the perishable collection, as well as the aspects of views arising from the root of the view of the perishable collection. Among these, confusion pervasive ignorance is: For example, here someone is confused by non-reality, or confused by counting, or confused by forgetting, or confused by color, or confused by karma, and is pervasively ignorant of similar dharmas. Among these, pervasive ignorance steadfast is: For example, here someone becomes a dharma nature that does not attain parinirvana, therefore his pervasive ignorance is so steadfast that even the Buddhas cannot destroy it. Among these, extremely pervasive ignorance is: For example, here someone constantly and continuously engages in wrong conduct, clearly knowing and seeing that he is tormented by the suffering arising from the cause of wrong conduct, yet still runs towards it, and is very happy about it,
