For the sake of benefiting sentient beings, the mind of a Bodhisattva manifests joy, cultivating uninterrupted and non-inverted practice, and all actions of body, speech, and mind arising from this should be understood as the very nature of a Bodhisattva's diligence. So, what are all the diligences of a Bodhisattva? In brief, they should be understood as two types: relying on the side of householders and relying on the side of renunciants. Relying on these two sides, it should also be understood as three types: armor-like diligence, accumulating virtuous qualities, and benefiting sentient beings. Among these, the armor-like diligence of a Bodhisattva is as follows: Before engaging in diligence, a Bodhisattva first takes joy in their heart as a precursor, donning armor in this way: Even if, in order to liberate a single sentient being from suffering, I had to remain in nothing but the hell realms for days and nights equal to a thousand great eons, without being reborn elsewhere, until the time when Bodhisattvas attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, multiplied by billions upon billions, even if I were to attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, I would still rejoice. I will not fail to strive for unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, nor will I abandon the diligence I have already begun. Since the duration is extremely short and the suffering is extremely small, what need is there to mention it? Such is the armor-like diligence of a Bodhisattva. Any Bodhisattva who merely generates faith and joy in such armor-like diligence of Bodhisattvas is steadfast, for beginning diligence for the sake of enlightenment causes immeasurable causes to fully increase. So, what need is there to mention a Bodhisattva who possesses such armor-like diligence? For such a Bodhisattva, for the sake of enlightenment and the benefit of sentient beings, whatever actions that Bodhisattva's

It will not be discouraged by this, and there is nothing difficult that must be done. So, what is the diligence of the Bodhisattvas in accumulating virtuous dharmas? Diligence is to be associated with the perfection of generosity in order to perfectly accomplish the perfection of generosity, and diligence is to be associated with the perfections of morality, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom in order to perfectly accomplish wisdom and so on. In short, it can be known in seven ways: because it is not moved by all discriminations, various discriminations, afflictions, near afflictions, external adversaries, and the harm of suffering, therefore it is immovable; because it has respectful association, it is firm; because it abides near the perfect accomplishment of all places of learning, it is immeasurable; because it has the path of attainment that is not inverted; in order to understand equality, it has skillful means; because it desires to obtain what has the meaning of being obtainable, it is true diligence; because it is constantly associated, it is vast; because the initiation of diligence has no pride, it is without arrogance. Bodhisattvas initiate the diligence of accumulating virtuous dharmas in these seven ways, which quickly perfects the perfections and attains the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. Because diligence is the main and supreme cause for the virtuous dharmas of the Bodhisattva to be so perfectly accomplished, and not others, therefore, the Tathagatas taught that diligence can attain the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. The diligence of Bodhisattvas in benefiting sentient beings is like this: as it is said in the chapter on morality, it can be known in eleven ways, and what is said there as morality is said here as diligence, the difference is here. To this, Bodhisattva
