In the boundless and limitless realms, if there exist worlds without suffering, the Bodhisattva chooses to be born in realms where suffering exists and is abundant, rather than in places without suffering. This is because they see other beings afflicted and harmed by various sufferings, feeling oppressed; or they see themselves afflicted and harmed by various sufferings, feeling oppressed; or they see other beings, themselves, or both, afflicted and harmed by long-term, diverse, intense, and continuous suffering, feeling oppressed. Therefore, the Bodhisattva relies on their own lineage, and because of their inherently virtuous nature, even without training, they can generate small, medium, and great compassion through these four objects of focus. The Bodhisattva first has genuine compassion for sentient beings, and then, relying on these four causes, they are not afraid or frightened even by the long-term, diverse, intense, and continuous sufferings of samsara, let alone small sufferings. This is because their nature is endowed with great courage and steadfastness, and they possess strength. This is the first cause. They are wise, possess the ability to think correctly, and have the power of discernment. This is the second cause. They have a great desire for unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. This is the third cause. They have great compassion for sentient beings. This is the fourth cause. What are the four powers? They are the inner power, the outer power, the power of cause, and the power of application. Among these, the desire for unsurpassed perfect enlightenment through one's own power is called the inner power of the Bodhisattva's generation of Bodhicitta. The generation of desire for unsurpassed perfect enlightenment through the power of others is called the outer power of the Bodhisattva's generation of Bodhicitta. Having been accustomed to the virtuous Dharma of the Mahayana in the past, so that now merely seeing the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, or merely hearing their praises, one quickly generates Bodhicitta, let alone...

What to say of hearing the Dharma or seeing the power? That is called the power of the cause of the arising of the mind of a Bodhisattva. Relying on a noble person in this very life, listening to the noble Dharma, and familiarizing oneself with virtuous Dharmas such as the mind for a long time, that is called the power of the application of the arising of the mind of a Bodhisattva. When the four conditions and four causes of a Bodhisattva are gathered, or relying on each, if the two powers, the inner power and the power of the cause, are gathered, or the mind necessarily arises from each, then it is stable, becomes the essence, and becomes unmoving. The mind that arises from the power of others and the power of application should be known to be unstable. There are four causes for a Bodhisattva's mind to turn away. What are the four? Not being of the lineage, being completely seized by sinful companions, having little compassion for sentient beings, fearing the long, various, fierce, and uninterrupted sufferings of samsara, being very afraid, frightened, and trembling, is the cause of turning away from the mind. These four causes of turning away from the mind are the opposite of the four causes of the arising of the mind, and should be known to increase as before. These two are rare and wonderful Dharmas of the Bodhisattva's initial arising of the mind, which are stable and uncommon to the world. What are the two? Completely holding all sentient beings as wives, and not being defiled by the faults of holding wives. The faults of holding wives are: benefiting and harming wives, and arising afflictions from obedience and disobedience. These two are not present in a Bodhisattva. These two are the Bodhisattva's initial arising of the mind, which is stable, and causes the arising of superior good intentions towards sentient beings. What are the two? The superior intention of benefiting and the superior intention of happiness. The superior intention of benefiting is the desire to take out from the place of non-virtue and place in the place of virtue. The superior intention of happiness is the mind
