It abides and dwells relying on that generation of Bodhicitta. It applies the bodhisattva's training, the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment, and the activities for the benefit of sentient beings. Thus, that generation of Bodhicitta is the basis for the bodhisattva's trainings. Therefore, that initial generation of Bodhicitta should be understood as a collection, a root, a common cause, and a basis. In brief, the initial generation of Bodhicitta of a bodhisattva is of two types: those that are definite and those that are not definite. Among them, the definite ones are those that, once arisen, enter permanently and do not turn back. The non-definite ones are those that, once arisen, do not enter permanently and do turn back. The turning back of that generation of Bodhicitta is also of two types: permanent and non-permanent. Among them, the permanent ones are like this: once the mind has turned back, it will not arise again for the sake of enlightenment. The non-permanent ones are like this: even if the mind turns back, it will arise again and again for the sake of enlightenment. That generation of mind should also be understood as arising from four conditions, four causes, and four powers. What are the four conditions? Here, a son or daughter of good family sees the miracles and inconceivable power and wonders of the Tathagata or a bodhisattva, or hears of them from a reliable source. Having seen or heard them, they think to themselves, "Alas, what is the place where they dwell? Or the place they have entered?" Having seen and heard such power and such miracles, they think, "That enlightenment is very powerful." Having thought this, they rely on that very seeing and hearing of the power, and they admire great enlightenment and generate the mind for great enlightenment. This is the first condition for the arising of the mind. Even if they have not seen or heard the power, they begin with unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and when the treasury of enlightenment is taught, they listen to the sacred Dharma. Having listened, they also develop faith. Having developed faith, they also rely on hearing the sacred Dharma, and they admire the wisdom of the Tathagata, and for the sake of attaining the wisdom of the Tathagata, they generate the mind. This is
