If one has the fault of (anger) affliction, it will not change. If one wants to subdue with that method, wanting to subdue and urging from the state of non-virtue, wanting to place in the state of virtue, there is no fault. If one is a non-Buddhist, there is no fault. If one wants to purify all inappropriate and sinful behaviors by allowing them to be purified by whipping, there is no fault. If someone is naturally quarrelsome and argues, if they are purified by whipping, they will mostly become more agitated, and if anger arises, there is no fault. If one expects the other person to be patient and completely without malice, but starts to subdue them with whipping because of the faults of others, making them very ashamed, there is no fault. In any dispute, if others have faults, Bodhisattvas use whipping to harmonize them in accordance with the Dharma, but if they have a completely malicious mind and whip with the intention of harming others, and do not listen, there will be faults and contradictions, and it will become the fault of affliction. If one does not have a completely malicious mind, but does not listen because of an impatient nature, then it will become the fault of affliction. If one wants to subdue the other person with that method, there is no fault. All things should be understood as before. If whipping is used improperly and disharmoniously, there is no fault. If a Bodhisattva has angry thoughts towards others, and seizes and accepts them, there will be faults and contradictions, and it will become the fault of affliction. If the desire arises to abandon it, there is no fault, as before. Tenth chapter. If a Bodhisattva is controlled by complete attachment to offerings and reverence, and gathers retinues with a mind mixed with material benefits, there will be faults and contradictions, and it will become the fault of affliction. If one accepts offerings and reverence with a mind unmixed with material benefits, there is no fault. If a Bodhisattva develops negligence and laziness, and indulges in the pleasure of sleep, the pleasure of lying down, and the pleasure of relaxing the body, at inappropriate times and limits,

If it is not, but is taken as one's own, it will become a fault and contradictory, and will become a fault of affliction. If one is sick and unable, there is no fault. If one is tired from the road, there is no fault. If a desire arises to abandon it, there is no fault. It should be understood as before. If a Bodhisattva spends time indulging in noisy talk with a mind of universal attachment, it will become a fault and contradictory, and will become a fault of affliction. If one spends time forgetting, it will become a non-afflictive fault. When others are speaking and sitting, if one remains in mindfulness and listens to the other person for just a moment, there is no fault. If one finds it amazing, just asking questions, and just suggesting ways to ask questions, there is no fault. A Bodhisattva, starting from the practice of abiding in the mind, wants to abide in the mind equally, but if he has a mind of universal torment and is overwhelmed by pride, and does not accept instruction, it will become a fault and contradictory, and will become a fault of affliction. If one acts with negligence and laziness, it will become a non-afflictive fault. If one is sick and unable, there is no fault. If one is worried that the instruction will go astray, there is no fault. If one is a learned person, can one abide in the mind equally? If he has already completed the act of instructing with instruction, there is no fault. If a Bodhisattva accepts and does not eliminate the obscuration of desire for desire, it will become a fault and contradictory, and will become a fault of affliction. If a desire arises to abandon it and one strives, but if the afflictions violently overwhelm the mind and one acts universally, there is no fault. Just as desire for desire, hatred, drowsiness, sleep, excitement, regret, and doubt should also be understood in the same way. If a Bodhisattva enjoys the taste of meditation and also regards the enjoyment of the taste of meditation as a virtue, it will become a fault and contradictory, and will become a fault of affliction. If a desire arises to abandon it, there is no fault, as before. Bodhisattva, any Bodhisattva
