Do. There is no fault in protecting the minds of many others. There is no fault in protecting the internal discipline of the Sangha. The Bodhisattva, because the Blessed One, in order to protect the minds of others, to make the non-believers believe, and to make the believers grow more. With regard to whatever is established as a transgression and with what is established from the Vinaya of Individual Liberation, one should study in the same way as the Hearers, without making any difference. Why is that? Because the Hearers are only focused on their own benefit, even they, in order to make the non-believers believe, and to make the believers grow more, it is impossible not to protect the minds of others. If one studies the precepts, what need is there to mention the Bodhisattvas who are focused on the benefit of others? The Blessed One, starting from the Hearers' benefit being small, their actions being few, and their dwelling in a small mind, the Bodhisattva does not study in the same way as the Hearers with regard to the transgression and what is established. Why is that? Because the Hearers focus on their own benefit and do not consider the benefit of others. Starting from the benefit of others, it is beautiful for the benefit to be small, the actions to be few, and to dwell in a small mind. The Bodhisattva focuses on the benefit of others, and starting from the benefit of others, it is not beautiful for the benefit to be small, the actions to be few, and to dwell in a small mind. For example, for the benefit of others, the Bodhisattva should seek hundreds and thousands of clothes from Brahmins and householders who do not come near. If there is an opportunity to guide, one should also observe whether those beings are sufficient or insufficient, and then take what is needed. Just as with clothes, so too with alms bowls. Just as one should seek, so too with taking one's own thread and having ropes woven by those who do not come near, so too with that. For the benefit of others, one should also lay out hundreds and thousands of silk mattresses and cushions. One should also possess more than hundreds of thousands of billions of gold and silver coins. The Bodhisattva who abides in the discipline of the Bodhisattva's vows, and so on, for those Hearers, the benefit is small, the actions are few, and the mind is small.

Starting from dwelling in peace, one should learn equally about offenses that have been prescribed and those that have not, and motivated by the benefit of sentient beings, if one is completely filled with a mind of torment and a mind of anger, and dwells with caution regarding small matters and few affairs, then it will become an offense and a transgression, and will become an offense of affliction. If one dwells with caution regarding small matters and few affairs due to laziness and sloth, then it will become an offense and a transgression, but it will not become an offense of affliction. Some naturally occurring offenses, if a Bodhisattva who is skilled in means practices in that way, it will not become an offense, and it will also increase much merit. For example, robbers and thieves are about to kill hundreds and thousands of Sravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas, who possess great lives, for the sake of a small amount of wealth, and are engaging in committing many deeds of immediate retribution. A Bodhisattva sees this, and having seen it, thinks in this way: 'If I kill this being, I may be born in the hells, but my being born in the hells is not important. If this being commits deeds of immediate retribution and goes to the hells, that would be terrible.' Thinking in this way, if the Bodhisattva knows that it is a virtuous mind or an unspecified mind, and cautiously kills that being with only a compassionate mind for the future, it will not become an offense, and much merit will also increase. For example, if a Bodhisattva has the power, those kings or great ministers who are mostly cruel and have no compassion for sentient beings, and who are certainly engaged in harming others, if they remain in that position, that foundation will increase much non-merit, then with a compassionate mind and a beneficial intention, they should be removed from the power of the kingdom. Those robbers and thieves who steal the wealth of others, who have stolen much wealth from the Sangha and stupas, claimed it as their own, and desire to enjoy it, the Bodhisattva should take back the wealth from them.
